About the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences

The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) at the Georgia Institute of Technology (GA Tech) is highly interdisciplinary and covers broadly all fields of Earth and space science. EAS hosts a range of undergraduate degrees, including B.S. programs in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS), Solid Earth and Planetary Sciences (SEP), and Environmental Science (ENVS), and hosts a distinct interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Ocean Science and Engineering in collaboration with the School of Biological Sciences and Environmental Engineering. Job Summary

The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (https://eas.gatech.edu/) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Ocean and Climate Sciences. Applicants will be considered at all ranks. We are seeking candidates who will make fundamental contributions in the broadly-defined area of ocean and climate sciences through a range of approaches including theory, observations, modeling and data sciences. The successful candidate will complement the existing expertise within the department, and the areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, physical oceanography and its role in climate dynamics, the cryosphere and sea level change, earth system modeling, and machine learning/artificial intelligence. The ideal candidate will be expected to successfully develop and teach fundamental courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and make positive contributions to the School, Institute, and community. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Collaborate and connect with other scientists in EAS and other units.
  • Build a vibrant, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program that addresses scientific questions of fundamental significance in ocean and climate science.
  • Provide high-quality teaching and mentoring of students, while promoting an inclusive work environment; and provide service to the school and the institute.
Required Qualifications

An earned doctorate in Atmospheric Science, Oceanic Science or a related field is required before start of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Examples of preferred qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following student success criteria:

  • The ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing graduate education.
  • The ability to engage students in experiential learning activities and pedagogy that support student success.
