Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $53,500- $92,100. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $62,000- $65,000.

Job Closing Date

About the Job

In consultation with Divisional Services and Department Leadership, and working with a high degree of independence, the Course and Curriculum Coordinator applies in-depth knowledge of department and School requirements to determine the courses to be taught toward the B.A. / B.S., emphases, minor programs, honors programs, and graduate degrees within the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts (SSHA). Takes into consideration the proper sequencing of courses for progression toward degree, courses taught in other departments, and other complicating factors, including faculty leaves and preferences, faculty course load, classroom availability, enrollment data, and university and School guidelines. Makes recommendations for replacement courses. Primary collaboration and interaction in this position is with the SSHA Manager of Instructional Services, staff in SSHA Academic Advising, SSHA Graduate Services, Office of the Registrar, and SSHA department chairs and graduate group chairs. The position requires the Course and Curriculum Coordinator to be responsible for all start-of-term processes in addition to facilitating classroom changes/adjustments and maximum enrollment adjustments. This position will also be responsible for managing current and upcoming semester processes, including overseeing midsemester and final grade submissions and conducting an administrative review for the course proposal process, in addition to annual general catalog review and processes. This position will supervise student employees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with a high degree of independence, in collaboration with SSHA Divisional Services and Department Leadership, SSHA Academic Advising, and SSHA Associate and Assistant Deans, determines courses to be offered each term based upon department major requirements for B.A. / B.S., emphases, minor programs, honors programs, and graduate degrees, enrollment trends, course restrictions, and faculty availability. Duties include the following areas of competency: interpretation and ability to articulate policies and procedures; data analysis; error-checking and implementation of UC, campus, School, and Divisional policies and procedures; responding to questions from and coordinating with Faculty (Senate, Teaching, and Non-Senate Faculty), students, and other campus offices. As a part of this process, set up enrollment limits, seat reservations, and other course restrictions; recommend replacement courses and adjust maximum enrollments when necessary.
  • Oversees SSHA Summer Session course scheduling process; advises Instructional Services Assistant on best practices; liaises with SSHA Academic Advising, SSHA Graduate Services, and Summer Session Office on recommended replacement courses, max enrollment adjustments, and other faculty/student needs
  • Supports instructors for current and upcoming semesters, including tracking enrollments, assigning instructors of record, ensuring scheduled final exam periods are accurate, and overseeing the tracking of mid-semester and final grade submissions
  • Utilizing extensive knowledge of course content and Senate requirements, facilitates the administrative review of new and revised course proposals in the curriculum management system. Provide training and support to faculty.
  • Utilizing extensive knowledge of program content and Senate requirements, Manages the annual update to SSHA portions of the UC Merced General Catalog.
  • Devises solutions to classroom space and scheduling problems, taking into account the curriculum needs of students, the needs of faculty, and available options. Advises Divisional Services, Department Leadership, and department /School/SSHA Leadership on complex curricular issues and recommends courses of action when new courses, and programs are introduced.
  • Conducts annual assessment of processes for efficiency including but not limited to scheduling and new and revised course proposals; maintain internal documentation of enrollment trends for future planning.
Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. (Required)
  • Three years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in a student services job function, or seven years equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. (Required)

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Thorough knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of department, organization, and University policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Thorough knowledge of department and school, general and major course and degree requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with and gain trust from department senior management, faculty, and students.
  • Proven ability in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends.
  • Proven ability to find solutions to conflicting situations.
