Job Description
General Responsibilities:

Terracon is looking for an accomplished and dynamic leader to join our team as a Regional Transportation Practice Lead. In this role, you will have an opportunity to build and lead a high-functioning regional team, while driving business development and growth strategy Terracon's North Georgia Region.

Develop relationships with Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), civil engineering firms performing work for GDOT and other state, county, and local transportation agencies. Lead transportation-related project pursuits and prepare proposals and cost estimates. Provide high level geotechnical engineering and consulting services for regional transportation related projects and clients. This may include performing and/or leading engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related geotechnical engineering reports for transportation services. Review and oversee review by others of drawings and construction to assure compliance with plans and specifications. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may be provided for existing or proposed projects in the public works and transportation sectors.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Execute the transportation initiatives within local offices in the region.
  • Lead marketing, sales and business development for transportation projects.
  • Responsible for conceptualizing the initial design and/or investigative approach for a major phase of a large project or have overall responsibility for the engineering work on a project of moderate scope.
  • Provide geotechnical technical leadership on key projects; when needed be responsible for the overall project and performance.
  • Direct the efforts of large project client pursuits including strategy and facilitation.
  • Lead interactions with client, stakeholders and project managers to ensure the projects are being coordinated to meet the needs of the client and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a senior project manager for key projects overseeing and coordinating resources from multiple service lines and offices across the company.
  • Manage new client development and grow sales for defined group of existing clients including diversification of service provided.
  • Provide input into the overall strategy for the service line or business sector and execute the goals.
  • Manage risk related to projects. Ensure contracts are signed and fully executed prior to commencing work. Monitor adherence to corporate risk policies and practices. Hold managers accountable for mitigating or eliminating risk.
  • Communicate safety initiatives, rules and guidelines for office or region. Hold managers and employees accountable for following safety rules and guidelines.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Ensure best practices are being followed and hold Managers accountable for quality control standards.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and 15 years' related experience.
  • Strong engineering consulting and client development background.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise and knowledge of Transportation clients and projects.
  • Experience working with/on Georgia Department of Transportation projects.
  • Technical expertise with emphasis in either geotechnical engineering or environmental planning.
  • Experience in client engagement, proposal writing, and commercial agreements.
  • Obtain Authorized Project Reviewer status by Terracon within one year.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and growing targeted business sector, recruiting, hiring and mentoring staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management that achieves successful project outcomes including financial, technical, client and safety objectives.
