Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking Assistant Dean II for the Graduate School-Newark (
GSN). The Assistant Dean II is responsible for leading the development, strategic planning, management, oversight, analysis, and evaluation of all programs and projects to prepare graduate students across disciplines to be qualified and competitive for employment opportunities, including and especially those outside traditional academic institutions.
This position's projects may include but are not limited to,
- Responsible for the creation, development, oversight, analysis and evaluation of courses, workshops, mentorship programs, new innovative online training, and internship programs
- Uses a high level of judgment, strategic view, leadership and analysis including the ability to weigh and balance multiple goals and responsibilities
- Anticipates market trends, to understand concerns and provide leadership to students, alumni, faculty, staff, employers, and the university and GSN administration
- Develops and oversees institutional research initiatives, as well as group and individual learning activities for GSN graduate students in order to improve professional development and enhance career success

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or EdD) required
- Minimum of two years creating, managing, administering, and/or evaluating professional development and academic enrichment activities for graduate students at a major research university.

- Record of independent research
- Record of publication in refereed journals.
- Experience writing proposals for external funding.
- Experience in evaluating programs, and administering surveys.
- Excellent verbal/written communication.

- Strong interpersonal skills to help build, manage, and maintain a collaborative and team-based work environment.
- Analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and also as a leader of teams.
- Prior experience that demonstrated initiative and a sense of ownership for projects.
- Excellent supervisory, organizational, and training skills, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds, skills in the development, implementation, and execution of programs.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Doctoral degree and postdoctoral experience in education or educational administration,
- including expertise in the education of adults.
- Advanced knowledge in education and training of adults, including a doctoral degree in education or related field
- Expertise in program creation, administration and evaluation of educational activities, including the ability to disseminate in the form of presentations or publications, and the ability to develop appropriate activities for teaching skills to graduate students in either face-to-face or online formats.

Equipment Utilized |
- Use of software to create and analyze surveys, maintain databases and maintain web
sites. Carry out analyses of results at a level of sophistication expected for
the preparation and submission of papers to peer-reviewed scholarly journals.
