Internship - High Performance Computing Engineer

The hands-on job of a software engineer intern for HPC platform is responsible for the support and collaboration with computation infrastructure team to set up and maintain computation platform in HMI San Jose site. Troubleshooting existing platforms and provide scripts to automate the monitoring process on both software and hardware scope, also include network, and other software issues even if these go beyond the platform. Learning and running software & platform development processes, install, and upgrade (ansible, K8s, Container, Docker, shell script) is one of your duties.

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. * 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require the Company to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Role and responsibilities

• Support, maintain and troubleshooting HPC computation platform with computation infrastructure team and machine owners.

• Develop and automate installation/setup/testing and monitoring function/process for HPC platform.

Education and experience

• Candidates should have good domain knowledge in High-Performance Computing, script language(Shell, Python), Linux administrator, operating systems (Linux, Windows), computer network

• Distributed file systems (Lustre/NFS), virtualization and containerization related experience is a plus

• Configuration and maintenance of the HPC computer rack/hardware. Professionally resolve hardware issues

• HPC Rack, Build, cable, configure, and provision Linux kernel, windows server.

• HPC Operating System Installation/provision - Windows Server, Linux, Unix.

• Troubleshooting and resolving hardware problems on Linux cluster hardware and networking equipmentand applying logical methods of resolution

• Preventive maintenance of cluster hardware

• Web Server and Database installation experience a plus

• Must be willing to learn quickly, multitask, and work in a fast pace environment.

Responsibilities

• Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus.

• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

• May require travel (specify domestic and/or international) dependent on business needs.
