Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Mid Level Mechanical Engineering Technician to assist the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division's Naval Architecture and Engineering Department in achieving new or improved understanding in concepts and technology, fundamental and applied research of the marine environment, engineering and naval architecture, hydromechanics, maneuvering and control, fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, modeling and simulation, test and evaluation, and training.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

Successful candidates will demonstrate

  • Associate degree in any Engineering Technology discipline or a trade school diploma/trade license and seven (7) years of related experience
  • Ten (10) or more years of related experience in lieu of an Associate's degree in Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum Secret Clearance

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team under project deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include one or more of the following in support of NSWC Code 80 mission:

  • Support Design and Development Initiatives:
    • Hull Forms and Propulsor support: Perform geometry, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic calculations, design, and analysis, to include accounting for properties of materials and joining methods, strength, structure, arrangements, weights and stability, trim, interfaces, and interoperability with mechanical equipment, electrical, and electro-mechanical equipment
    • Mechanical Equipment Support: Perform geometry, kinematic and thermodynamic calculations, design, and analysis of mechanical equipment considering the properties of the equipment's materials and fasteners, and taking into account how the equipment interfaces and operates with hull forms, propulsors, mechanical equipment, and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Support Systems Engineering initiatives:
    • Provide support and analysis in the areas of fluid systems design, main propulsion systems, auxiliary systems, HVAC systems, control and instrumentation, deck machinery, vibration analysis, and shafting and propulsion train analysis.
  • Support Test and Evaluation initiatives through assembly and integration of new mechanical and electrical systems into existing test facilities.
