The Immune Monitoring and Discovery Platform (IMDP), within the OSUCCC-James Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology, delivers cutting-edge technology to analyze the immune systems response to cancer immunotherapy. IMDP resources include Cytek Aurora Spectral Cell Sorter, Cytek Aurora Spectral Analyzer, Cytek Northern Lights, BD FACSMelody, PhenoImager HT (Vectra), EVOS, Xenium Analyzer and more. The IMDP is seeking an innovative Senior Research Scientist.

Job Duties include:

  • Instrument maintenance, standardization, and quality assurance: Establish and/or modifies and/or implements Standard Operating Procedures for routine instrument maintenance and performance evaluation.

  • Perform instrument setup and acquisition of samples independently.

  • Perform calibration/alignment, maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair of cytometers and associated facility instruments.

  • Document instrument performance, maintenance, service, and corrective actions.

  • Provide training for technicians and investigators with respect to the basics of the technology, instrument startup/shutdown and maintenance, data acquisition and transfer, and data analysis as needed.

  • Educate core laboratory clients with respect to sample requirements for specific experimental goals.

  • Experimental design and optimization with the laboratory Director to advise investigators regarding experimental design and data analysis.

  • Work with investigators to explore and optimize current and emerging techniques.

  • Work independently or together with Director to establish analysis strategies. Present novel assays and techniques to research group.

  • Assess inventory and order supplies when needed.

  • Conduct operations of the facility within safety guidelines for instrument operation, as well as chemical and biological safety standards.

  • Maintain reporting and billing, process costing and fee development, budget development and management.

  • Maintain technical currency, identify, and assess developing technologies, platforms, reagents, and methods.

  • Import and deploy as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree, PhD or equivalent experience required.

  • 5-6 years of relevant experience required.

  • 6-8 years of relevant experience preferred.

Experience:

  • Proficient knowledge of immunology.

  • Demonstrated success training and supervising others.

  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis platforms and reducing that data to figures suitable for scientific presentations (e.g., FlowJo, DiVa, Omiq, InForm) and Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other common tools.

  • Training in bacteriological, viral, chemical, and physical safety.

  • Proficiency with Macintosh and PC computers and handheld devices.

  • Able to work safely in a BSL2 environment.

About Us:

The PIIO is a comprehensive bench-to-bedside research initiative focused on harnessing the bodys immune system to fight cancer at all levels (https://cancer.osu.edu/piio). Launched in July 2019 as part of a $102 Million pledge from Pelotonia (pelotonia.org), the PIIO represents Ohio State's commitment to grow the exciting area of immuno-oncology. Led by founding director and renowned immunologistZihai Li, MD, PhD, the PIIO builds upon a rich portfolio of active investigator-initiated IO clinical trials being conducted at the OSUCCC James.

Research in the PIIO centers on Systems IO (a systems-wide strategy to study the anti-cancer immune response holistically to discover the next IO breakthroughs and create effective cancer immunotherapies) and Translational IO (where we turn discoveries into new or improved cancer treatments and broaden the indications and patient populations that can be treated with cellular therapy). Our Immune Monitoring and Discovery Platform (IMDP) supports each center, providing comprehensive cell-based and molecule-based immunoassay services to support basic, translational, and clinical IO studies. The PIIOs Immuno-Oncology Informatics Group (IOIG) provides data analytics for flow and mass cytometry, bulk and single-cell RNA-Seq, spatial transcriptomics and imaging, neoantigen discovery, and more.

The OSUCCC James is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center, rated Exceptional, the highest rating given to cancer centers by the NCI; is one of only a few centers funded by the NCI to conduct phase I, II and III clinical trials on novel anticancer drugs; and includes the third-largest freestanding cancer hospital in the country. Ohio Stateis located inColumbusa highly ranked, modern, affordable, friendly and diverse city. The Ohio State University is an EOE/AA/M/F/D/V employer.
