Overview Applicants should include nursing school and anticipated graduation date on resume. Program details and qualifications: Open to Nursing Student graduating in Fall/Winter 2025 or Spring 2026. Nurse Scholars and nursing students who are home on summer break are eligible to participate. Must be available 24 (Part-time) or 36 (Full-time) hours per week to participate. 2025 Program dates are: May 19th- July 12th and June 2nd-July 26th Nurse Aide I or II certification required before March 1, 2025 This paid 8-week program provides one-on-one clinical experience with a RN preceptor and includes nursing professional development workshops and shadowing opportunities. Applicants will be matched with opportunities available at the facilities. For nursing students who have not completed a Nurse Aide I training program, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services does have a training waiver process for those who qualify. Job Summary The Nurse Extern assists in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Assists in maintaining a clean, safe patient environment and performs job responsibilities in a safe manner. Maintains clinical and professional competencies as appropriate to the needs of the patient population served. Essential Functions
Physical Requirements Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak and understand English in good understandable terms. Must have manual and finger dexterity. Physical abilities testing required. Education, Experience and Certifications High School Diploma or GED required. Currently in good standing in Registered Nurse academic program required. Successful completion of Junior year or equivalent at the time of the Nurse Extern program required. Current listing with the DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II prior to start date required. BLS required per policy guidelines. |
