Position Summary:
This position will provide a full array of services related to the procurement of goods and services. Adopting a university-wide strategic approach for the implementation of standards that represent best sourcing and procurement methods, while conforming to university policies. Essential Functions:
- Coordinates activities involved with Strategic Sourcing of all goods and services.
- Collects data required to develop detailed Strategic Sourcing projects and works with the Director to analyze the information in support of the underlying plan;
- Conducts value analysis activities to ensure customer involvement with product/service selection and quality;
- Collaborate with procurement staff, and others involved with the procurement process, in developing sourcing strategies and facilitating any competitive solicitation required to satisfy those requirements;
- Develop an understanding of contracts to ensure NJIT's business terms are incorporated into resulting legal agreements;
- Collaborate with the Contract Administrator, Risk Management and Office of Legal Counsel to assist with executing agreements on behalf of the University;
- Independently prepares specifications for Sourcing Events that comply with University, Federal as well as State guidelines and policies.
- Reviews and approves requisitions that are routed to the queue to ensure compliance.
- Prepare for and lead supplier solicitation and negotiation efforts.
- Analyze supplier proposals and recommend appropriate next steps in the iterative negotiation process.
- Maintain open channels of communication with campus customers, Procurement and AP staff, and other stakeholders to understand future procurement needs; issues are quickly resolved, and opportunities are identified and acted upon. Additional Functions:
- Grow and strengthen current supplier relationships and validate their qualifications to provide goods and services to the University;
- Maintains deep category expertise through understanding and application of industry developments, marketplace trends, emerging technology, new techniques, leading practices, and shared experience;
- Review strategic sourcing methodology with the procurement team and other appropriate University stakeholders to ensure a basic understanding of the strategic sourcing objectives and approach. Performs other duties as assigned. Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, supply management or related field from an accredited college or university or comparative job experience
- 3-5 years:
a. experience in Procurement.
b. conducting complex RFX's (including construction) using eSourcing software
c. handling supplier negotiations
d. providing market analysis, strategic sourcing and planning, contract development and negotiation, and supplier development skills.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills required
- Demonstrated presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability in providing market analysis, strategic sourcing and planning, contract development and negotiation, and supplier development skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail (RFX's preparation, Award and Non-Award letters, requisition review to name a few)
- Utilization of an ERP and/or P2P system (NJIT is fully paperless with the utilization of eProcurement, eSourcing and eContracts).
- Demonstrated High proficiency with Microsoft Office software required such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Cognos
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position. Preferred Qualifications:
- Purchasing certification preferred (such as C.P.S.M.)
- eCommerce experience
- Excellent analytical skills
- Team player and professional appearance.
