Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Senior Accountant to be based out of our Harvey, IL facility. Reporting to the Director - Accounting Shared Services, this role will be responsible for preparing and completing the month end financial close process including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and corporate supplemental reporting templates and compliance reporting in accordance with US GAAP.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of accounting or finance experience.

What you'll do:



  • Prepare month-end journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and monthly close deliverables.
  • Assist in preparation of the monthly flux analysis for management review.
  • Prepare audit support for external and internal audits.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures & performing internal control procedures (SOX) in areas of responsibility.
  • Establish effective relationships and work cross-functionally across the organization.
  • Drive process improvements and efficiencies for areas of responsibility.
  • Participate in special projects, analysis, and reporting as required by management.
  • Develop & implement processes into Shared Services for selected areas.


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required, CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, and data query tools.
  • Experience with JD Edwards, AS400 and Hyperion preferred.
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, complex technical issues in a clear, concise matter, to individuals with little or no technical background.
  • Ability to take initiative by identifying problems, conceptualizing resolutions, and implementing change.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced team environment with minimum supervision; Ability to work efficiently and accurately with details and fluctuating work volumes


Within 3 Months you'll



  • Complete your Atkore immersion plan
  • Develop relationships with Shared Services team other key personnel.
  • Understand Atkore policies for accounting and internal controls.
  • Learned fundamentals of JDE and other software related to role.


Within 6 Months you'll



  • Take full responsibility for all journal entries related to position
  • Take full responsibility for all reconciliations related to position


Within 12 months you'll



  • Be subject matter expert in your processes and procedures
  • Be able to provide suggestions for process improvements
  • Be able to take on more responsibilities as needed
