Performs administrative duties in the management and coordination of a large specialized project and program. Performs varied and complex administrative duties requiring independent judgment and the application of established policies and procedures. May provide supervision and direction to clerical, paraprofessional or professional staff members.

Major/Essential Functions

Provides consultation to faculty, staff, and students on integrating engagement into research, grants, graduate mentoring, and teaching. Consultations will focus on developing community partnerships, engaged scholarship, and evaluating and reporting impact. Develops and manages a comprehensive university-level graduate certificate program in engagement. Support for the graduate certificate program will require coordinating certification infrastructure, tracking student progress, and teaching a graduate course(s) on engagement. May plan, assign, and supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

1. Engagement Consultations:

  • Provides consultation to faculty, staff, and students on integrating engagement into research, grants, graduate mentoring, and teaching.
  • Partner with the Office of Research and Innovation to enhance the broader impact components of grant proposals and increase research impact in society.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with the university's academic areas by participating in special events, professional development programs (i.e. symposiums, workshops, presentations, etc.), and promote a common understanding across campus of best practices in outreach and engagement to advance societal impact.
  • Liaises with the departments within the Outreach & Engagement Unit to advance engagement impact in the community.
  • Identifies community needs, by working closely with the program director of community partnerships.
  • Facilitate university/community partnerships on and off campus.
2. Advancing Graduate Engagement:
  • Promote and integrate graduate engagement into faculty consultations to enhance the broader impacts of grant proposals.
  • Develop a comprehensive university-level graduate certificate program in engagement.
  • Coordinate certification activity across participating colleges, track student data, and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Help foster the next generation of engaged scholars by teaching a graduate course to increase knowledge, skills, and experience to translate research in ways that address societal problems.
  • Assist graduate students in developing community partnerships, engaging with diverse communities, evaluating engagement activities, sharing ethics in community-engaged work, and communicating engagement work.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Four years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree in area of expertise or closely related area. One to three years of experience in planning, developing, or implementing engagement programs or research grants with a strong emphasis on societal impact. Demonstrated experience in engagement-related activities: engaged research, teaching, extension, community outreach programming, evaluating societal impact, etc.
