About the Department of Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences

The Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences department prioritizes values that reflect those of the university at large including a shared commitment to community, accessibility, diversity, respect and excellence. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team that includes four full-time faculty, three full-time clinical educators, and a talented group of professional staff and part-time affiliates. We offer both an undergraduate degree in speech, language hearing sciences and a graduate degree in speech-language pathology, with an optional concentration in bilingual (Spanish-English) service provision. The Bookhardt Family Speech-Language Clinic is a no-cost, on-campus clinic that supports the greater Denver-metro community. Our department strives to improve how knowledge is translated from the classroom to the clinic by breaking down traditional educational silos.

Position Summary

The Department of Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences at MSU Denver invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level. This is a nine-month faculty contract beginning in Fall 2025.

MSU Denver has a robust mentoring program for tenure-track faculty. The candidate will be enrolled in the Roadrunner Faculty Academy during their first year. This is a year-long course designed to support new faculty navigate faculty life and thrive in teaching, scholarly activity and service.

Responsibilities

This is a full-time tenure-track faculty position (9-month) with a focus on teaching, advising, scholarship and service. Teaching includes multiple delivery modes such as in-person, hybrid and asynchronous courses; on-campus teaching is required each semester. The teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, with assignments to both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Opportunities for course releases may be available to support integration/collaboration with the Bookhardt Family Speech-Language Clinic.

Other duties include advising students in academic planning and career exploration; participating in curriculum development and programmatic assessment and accreditation efforts; serving on departmental, university and professional committees; and pursuing scholarly activities related to the discipline.

Our department prioritizes engaged scholarship focused on community impact and serving the public good, which addresses one or more of the following issues:

  • Inequities in clinical service provision with historically marginalized populations
  • Challenges in professional preparation of diverse students including studentswith intersectional identities
  • Impact of inter-professional education and practice
  • Innovations in clinical service delivery including prevention, assessment and/or intervention

Required Qualifications

  • Earned research doctorate in speech-language pathology or commensurate eld.ABD candidates are welcome to apply, however, the required degree must be conferred before the fall 2025 semester starts
  • Certicate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • Holds or is eligible for SLP license from Colorado's Department of Regulatory Agencies
  • Evidence of independent, university-level teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in early intervention, developmental speech-language disorders, voice, and/or acquired communication disorders
  • Instructor of record for one or more undergraduate and/or graduate course(s) in SLHS discipline Evidence of high-impact teaching practices across different teaching modalities
  • Professional experience supporting individuals with diverse identities including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, economic status, and immigration status
  • Commitment to increasing access to education/services for under-represented and historically minoritized groups
  • Engagement in inter-professional collaboration
  • Knowledge of university and programmatic accreditation
  • Record of scholarly pursuits that align with department's priorities for scholarship
  • Pursuit of extramural funding

Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $63,000 - $70,000 at Assistant Professor rank. The salary of the nalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
