Civil Project Engineer

With a strong focus on technical excellence, collaboration, and client satisfaction, S&ME is seeking a full-time Civil Project Engineer to join our client Southern Company in their Energy center in Birmingham, Alabama to support their site work group. Join us at S&ME!

As a Civil Project Engineer, you will leverage your extensive expertise in design and project management to lead and execute a diverse range of civil site work engineering design that includes grading plan design, hydrology and stormwater management systems design, roadway design, and erosion control planning and design associated with preparing construction drawing packages, calculations, and sketches.

Your Day-to-Day:



  • Lead Project Management: Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring alignment with client expectations, budgets, and regulations. Manage the project lifecycle from concept to implementation while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
  • Coordinate Multidisciplinary Teams: Collaborate with local and remote teams, including engineers and construction professionals. Effective communication and cross-functional team management are essential for project success.
  • Innovate and Optimize Designs: Using AutoCAD Civil 3D to produce and prepare civil sitework designs and construction drawing packages utilizing internally provided CAD templates, go-bys, and drafting standards.
  • Client Interaction: Regularly interact and coordinate with local, regional, and national clients. Providing construction support as needed with respect to provided designs and construction drawings
  • Site Travel: Limited travel may be required. The expectation for travel is for site familiarity needed to support engineering designs and drawing packages. May be required to provide photo documentation during these visits.



About You:



  • You have a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or an appropriate technical field
  • You have a Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain reciprocity
  • You have a minimum of 6 years of experience in civil engineering
  • You have experience managing multi-disciplined teams with excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, and are well-organized
  • You are proficient in using AutoCAD Civil 3D for construction plan package development
