General Responsibilities
Provides complete student registration services including but not limited to in person registrations, researching and resolving registration and account information problems, scanning of student records, answering phone and e-mail inquiries, clerical tasks, assisting students with online registration, and other records functions. Interprets and communicates general college and records registration and veterans' affairs policies and procedures for the college community. Maintains privacy of student record information and compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act [ FERPA].
Work Performed

  • Provides records and registration services to students via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Provides services to students escalated from the Howard HUB.
  • Registers students for credit and non-credit courses, including JumpStart registration.
  • Assists students with accessing and navigating student accounts to complete records and registration-related tasks.
  • Monitors and triages office email inboxes, responds to student, faculty, and staff inquiries.
  • Responsible for student records updates such as Change of Information.
  • Provides printed transcripts, enrollment verifications, and other walk-up services.
  • Supports records, registration, and veterans' affairs communication efforts.
  • Scans and links documents in the imaging system.
  • Distributes office mail.
  • Performs other duties as assigned related to the functions of the office.

  • Customer or student service experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology to include Microsoft Office applications and student information systems or similar database.
  • Attention to detail and ability to resolve routine problems with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain thorough knowledge of office procedures and college policies.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information and materials while abiding by state and federal privacy laws, including FERPA.
  • Ability to contribute to a dynamic, student-focused, cooperative team culture that delivers excellent customer service and personal attention to students.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; demonstrated excellence providing customer service to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Working Conditions
Fast-paced, sometimes high stress customer service environment with peak periods of high volume. Occasional additional evening and weekend work during peak periods. Occasional local travel. Extensive follow-up work, database use, responding to inquiries, etc. Flexibility required.

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
