Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Adaptable Resolution is responsible for designing and implementing a range of conflict resolution strategies related to conflict prevention, education, coaching, consultation, mediation, facilitation, and restorative justice practices. The Assistant Director of Adaptable Resolution will provide input to the overall strategy and direction for the Adaptable Resolution Office and campus-wide efforts in dispute resolution, ensuring compliance with relevant state, federal, and University laws and policies as they relate to informal resolution, mediation, and restorative justice. The Assistant Director plays a critical role in supporting workplace dignity through developing conflict competence, addressing community issues, designing intervention strategies, implementing solutions, and collaborating across campus. Supervision Received: This position reports to the Director of Adaptable Resolution Supervision Exercised: May supervise student interns, graduate assistants, and other staff within the AR office as needed with future growth of office. Duties: Conflict Management (60%)
- Promoting, facilitating, and supporting the application of evidence-informed decision-making and best practices in the implementation of adaptable resolution pathways.
- Designing and implementing adaptable resolution processes, including multi-partial mediations, restorative justice circling, restorative justice conferencing, and re-entry processes to complement investigatory processes.
- Draft resolution agreements for individuals in dispute.
- Providing conflict coaching to students, staff, and faculty at the university.
- Understand and abide by professional standards and best practices in the conflict management field.
- Ensure that all participants in the adaptable resolution process understand their rights, available resources, and resolution options.
- Meet individually with participants to obtain additional information, ask clarifying questions, manage expectations, and explore options for possible resolution.
- Follow-up with all relevant individuals to gather pertinent background information and assess the dynamics of the issue and situation.
- Collaborate with Director of Adaptable Resolution to develop accessible reports and presentations for campus community members and constituents, internally and externally.
Administrative Functions 20%
- Provide input with marketing and outreach efforts to promote adaptable resolution services.
- Provide insight and assist with the implementation of an ongoing assessment model to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of adaptable resolution services.
- Utilize case management database to organize, manage, and track each phase of the resolution process, including signed resolution agreements.
- Compile, organize, and provide quantitative and qualitative data for internal and external reporting, including the annual report.
- Support the development, distribution, and review of evaluation and assessment tools to look at impact and effectiveness of AR processes.
- May act on behalf of the Director of AR when Director is out of office.
Education and Outreach 10%
- Develop and deliver training to build competencies around the use of adaptable resolution mechanisms.
- Assist with developing and implementing training and education when needed.
Collaboration and Partnership 10%:
- Serving on campus committees, task forces, working groups as appropriate.
- Proactively collaborating with the campus community to ensure the campus climate, both in and out of the classroom, is an inclusive, equitable, safe, and welcoming learning, living, and working environment.

Qualifications:
|
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
- 5-7 years of professional experience providing resolution services through education or training in a related role (for example coaching, conduct, discrimination or interpersonal violence response, employee relations, restorative justice conference facilitation, or mediation services).
- Completion of 40-hour mediation training program, which at minimum covers conflict theory, mediator roles and techniques, mediation process planning and preparation, and provided opportunity to practice and role play
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Condition of Employment:
- Must be willing and able to become an ICF certified coach within three years. Costs associated with obtaining this certification may be covered by the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus pending available budget.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in public speaking through teaching, training, and/or workshop facilitation.
- Experience resolving issues through mediation, conflict coaching, and/or restorative justice conferencing (examples can include education or training, investigations, student conduct, or interpersonal violence).
- Experience working in a dispute resolution or grievance response role in an education or workplace setting (examples can include ombuds, student conduct, academic integrity, or interpersonal violence response, employee relations, conflict resolution, or similar).
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
- Training and related experience performing coaching from an ICF certified training organization.
- Training or certification in restorative justice facilitation.
- Experience resolving conflict in an institution of higher education or academic medical center.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Conflict resolution skills necessary to elicit, understand, and summarize individual and group concerns.
- Ability to take initiative in planning, developing organizing, and following through on projects and plans while working both independently and collaboratively in a high pressure, dynamic, environment.
- Excellent writing, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- General understanding of state and federal laws and regulations around protected class discrimination and harassment, including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Guidance, Office for Civil Rights Guidance, and the Colorado Anti-Discrimination act.
- Demonstrated knowledge of discrimination and/or gender-based violence education and/or response
- General knowledge of student development, cross-cultural communications
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering educational content and trainings related to conflict, mediation, or facilitation.
- Strong grounding in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and philosophies and can apply an equity lens, anti-racism and anti-oppression approaches to program processes and practices to address inequities and systemic barriers to access.
- General understanding of, and sensitivity to, the complexities of experiencing gender-based violence, discrimination, and harassment based on protected class.
- Understanding of Colorado and Federal law related to mediation and restorative justice.
- Negotiation, facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills, with acumen in relationship building, and organizing, preparing, and delivering communications for diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage high stakes, high emotion, conversations with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to respond to concerns/harms of a sensitive nature with an empathetic approach.

Anticipated Pay Range:
|
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $85,000 to $105,000. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
