Join Our Team as a Project Quality Engineer!

Are you passionate about Quality Assurance? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our US QA department. As a Project Quality Engineer, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

The Quality Assurance organization provides a variety of services aimed at helping our internal customers, which include S&C leaders and team members, deliver superior quality to our customers. Quality planning, inspection, audit, quality information, quality improvement consulting, and quality communications are examples of the kind of services the organization provides.

The Project Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting Quality initiatives within S&C's US assembly operations. This position reports directly to the Senior Manager - Quality Assurance. While working closely with Product Engineering, Value Stream Engineering, Production Leadership, and Quality Managers, the Project Quality Engineer helps support the development of the quality standard and the quality program for S&C's US manufactured products. Through established quality problem-solving tools, the Project Quality Engineer will also be responsible for helping develop and implement quality improvements within the process to reduce both internal defects and customer issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality Engineering Expertise: Serve as a recognized subject matter expert in quality engineering within the company, providing guidance and expertise to teams across the organization. Lead large-scale quality improvement projects, including quality engineering and production team members.
  • Quality Standards Development & Maintenance: Provide support for the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality standards for U.S.-manufactured products, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Develop and integrate built-in quality processes into production operations, ensuring that quality considerations are embedded throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Project Leadership: Manage and oversee quality improvement projects that span multiple departments. This includes quality, value stream engineering, production teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Quality Support & Collaboration: Provide quality support for production, working closely with product engineering and product teams to address quality-related issues and drive continuous improvements. Lead the resolution of quality issues, utilizing problem-solving tools to identify root causes and implement effective preventative measures.
  • Metrics & Feedback Utilization: Utilize quality feedback and metrics to identify opportunities for design and process improvements, driving data-driven decision-making across the company.
  • Mentorship & Team Support: Work to other quality engineers and quality leaders, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the quality engineering team.
  • Industry Trends & Innovation: Proactively monitor industry trends and emerging technologies, incorporating relevant advancements into the company's approach to quality engineering.
  • Compliance: Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.

Additional Functions

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Attend in-person or virtual meetings as requested or required.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with others.
  • Drive a car or other vehicle for use to travel between the Chicago and Franklin plants.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

What you'll Need To Succeed:

Required

  • 7+ years of experience in quality, with at least some of that experience in manufacturing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading and successfully completing quality improvement projects. Proven ability to solve quality problems and implement effective process improvements.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS), including ISO 9001.
  • Demonstrated experience in process analytics with a broad knowledge of quality tools and industry metrics.
  • Sound business acumen and analytical skills with the ability to use and analyze data to drive informed decisions, problem-solve issues and leverage data and learnings to drive continuous improvement.
  • Great communication skills, (written, verbal, listening and presentation) able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels from senior executives to support staff. Creative and persuasive in communicating how interventions can improve current practices.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, including the flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.
  • Great organizational, planning and project management skills, coordinating internal and external resources and juggling key account demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, paying strict attention to accountability and project goals.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, drive, and a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to effectively coach, teach, train, and collaborate with team members at all levels.
  • Great computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office applications; specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and PowerBI.

Preferred

  • Experience in a large (2+ billion dollar revenue) B2B manufacturing company
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) Certification from ASQ

Environmental and Hazardous Conditions

  • Occasionally working indoors/outdoors in an air-conditioned/non-air-conditioned office/manufacturing/site-based environment.
  • Infrequently exposure to fumes/vapors/dust/gases/odors/mist/toxic chemicals/radiation/vibration/grease/oils/radiation/lasers/other etc.
  • Occasionally exposed to low/moderate/high noise levels including machinery/vehicles/forklifts/office equipment/office traffic etc.
  • Infrequently working around energized equipment with the risk of electrocution/scalding/burns/other etc.
  • Infrequently exposed to wet humid/outdoor weather/extreme cold (non-weather)/extreme heat (non-weather) conditions/other etc.
  • Infrequently working with machinery with moving parts/vehicles/forklifts/heavy machinery/sharp objects/other etc.
