Position Summary |
The University of Georgia is soliciting applications for a Wildlife Technician to assist with research and management of invasive wild pigs and coyotes on a remote barrier island off the coast of Georgia in collaboration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. A technician is needed to assist with an ongoing wild pig eradication and monitoring project aiming to protect high priority and threatened species, including sea turtles and nesting shorebirds. The selected candidate will be responsible for trapping and removing wild pigs and coyotes, radio collaring wild pigs, conducting remote camera surveys, and assisting with data collection and other research/management activities associated with this project. Housing will be provided at Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge, and during days off housing will be provided on Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, with potential exposure to varying weather conditions
- Strong communication skills, and demonstrate timely completion of deliverables.
- Highly organized, & efficient at problem solving in the field (e.g., mechanical issues).
- Ability to set and monitor wildlife traps and wildlife survey equipment (e.g., remote cameras).
- Ability to obtain a boating license within 3 months

Physical Demands |
- Lift 50lbs daily to a height of 4 feet and drag 100-150lbs.
- Occasionally walk long distances throughout the workday along wooded trails and through the woods.
- Operate UTV's and 4O4 vehicles on wooded trails and the beach.
- Operate a boat in coastal waters.
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.
