ISO New England is the not-for-profit, independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England's ongoing transition to clean energy.

ISO NE is currently developing a flexible market simulation platform to be used by multiple department in ISO-NE. This platform will serve to study the impact of new market designs and the challenges caused by the transition to the clean energy future. We are looking for new talent to work on the simulator design, software implementation, testing and integration with third-party software and cloud computing environment.

How you will make an impact:



  • Review/modify the overall architecture of the simulation platform
  • Develop and/or modify mathematical/optimization model of new or existing electricity markets
  • Participate in the market software development, including database design, clearing engine and market model
  • Participate in the effort to port the simulation platform to the cloud computing environment
  • Conduct various market simulation studies, analyze results and produce reports for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain and provide technical support for the simulation platform
  • Collaborate with other ISO-NE departments and external organizations in the area of electricity markets design/simulation and optimization



What we are looking for:



  • Bachelor, Master or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Operational Research or Computer Science
  • Experience in developing software for wholesale electricity markets, including relational database and optimization techniques
  • Knowledge of the electricity market operation
  • Understanding of power system operations and analysis
  • Experience with programming and modeling languages such as Java, Python, GAMS etc. is highly desirable
  • Working experience with commercial optimization solvers such CPLEX and GUROBI
  • Interest in acquiring knowledge and expertise in new technologies related to electricity markets, optimization and computing
