Department of Health Management and Policy
The
Department of Health Management and Policy is committed to excellence in research and teaching, to building a faculty and staff committed to preparing a diverse workforce, and to extending educational opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds. Our mission is to advance health and health systems by developing knowledge and future leaders in management, policy, and research for the benefit of all. The Department has extensive ties with local and regional health departments, health care systems, and other community partners. We offer a
BS in Health Systems Management, a
CAHME-accredited
MHA program, dual
MHA/MBA degree, and
MHA/MS degree through a collaboration with the School of Data Science, and contribute to the
MPH Concentration in Health and Policy. Faculty may have involvement in the
Health Informatics and Analytics graduate program. The Department is a member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (
AUPHA) and is
CAHME-accredited (Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management), with 12 full-time faculty serving over about 700 undergraduate and nearly 100 graduate students.
College of Health & Human Services
The College of Health & Human Services (
CHHS) offers a wide range of graduate and undergraduate degree and certificate programs to prepare graduates to pursue advanced degrees, and for a variety of practice, research, and administrative roles in the health and human services fields. Our high-quality, innovative educational programs include opportunities to study abroad and for distance education. Academic units include the
Department of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences,
Department of Epidemiology and Community Health,
School of Social Work, and
School of Nursing. An interdisciplinary
Gerontology Program offers both undergraduate and graduate options. The College is currently approved by the Council on Education for Public Health (
CEPH) to embark on the transition to establish our College as a School of Public Health. We enroll approximately 4,400 students annually, with around 3,900 undergraduate students and 500 graduate students in our programs. The College has over 200 faculty members who are actively engaged in research and scholarship, and who bring real-world experience to their teaching.

Description of Work |
Responsible for the daily operation of the department and the department programs. The Department Chair/ Director will promote excellence in department programs within the University. Chair/ Director responsibilities are classified as professional duties requiring leadership and mentoring of faculty, administrative expertise to include vision, long term and short-term planning, decision-making and coordination of instruction. |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
The Department requires a Chairperson to lead and facilitate all aspects of the Department. The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in Health Management, Health Policy, Health Administration, or closely related area and be eligible for appointment as Professor with tenure. Consequently, a successful candidate is expected to have a record of successful undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience, successful scholarship and grantsmanship, as well as communication, interpersonal, and change management skills and experience using data to effectively develop, implement, and improve programs and initiatives which are necessary to lead a visible and dynamic department, ability to advance the College and University Strategic Plans, contribute to the Department's mission and initiatives, and promote interdisciplinary collaboration and community partnerships, engaging institutional and community stakeholders, and have excellent communication, relationship-building, and creative problem-solving skills. |

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. |
