Job Summary
The Department of Mathematics at Elmhurst University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics beginning August 2025. The successful candidate will demonstrate a desire to teach in a primarily undergraduate setting while developing a solid research agenda that complements their excellence in teaching.

A Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or Statistics is required along with demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring in a comprehensive liberal arts setting. Candidates with prior experience teaching and mentoring students at either the community college or undergraduate level are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Elmhurst University Department of Mathematics places a high value on teaching excellence, collegiality, collaboration, and innovation in both teaching and research. The successful candidate will join a department strongly integrated in the STEM culture of the university which also supports our curriculum in Business, Computer Science, and Physics. This position includes teaching mathematics and statistics at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, major advising and mentoring, and supervising undergraduate research projects including our capstone senior paper that is required of all mathematics and actuarial science majors. The Department welcomes interested applicants to visit its website to see its diverse course offerings and strong commitment to both challenging students intellectually and preparing them professionally. There will also be opportunities to develop new courses for the department based on the candidate's academic interests. The teaching load is six courses per year. Typical class sizes range from 10-25 students.
Essential Functions

  • Course preparation, teaching, grading, and being available to students who have questions or require assistance.
  • Maintaining an active and productive research program.
  • Service to the department and University.
  • Teaching of upper level statistics and mathematics courses, the calculus sequence, and the typical service courses in statistics and mathematics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or Statistics by the start of appointment.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring.
  • Outstanding potential as a professor in a comprehensive liberal arts setting.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
