Job Summary
Supervise and coordinate the activities of hourly Yard crew and other employees who are on shift and ensure the jobs are being run safely and efficiently.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensures the safety and wellbeing of all Yard employees, including, but not limited to, ensuring all employees have the correct PPE, providing training for employees on assigned shift, and complying with all MSHA and Company Safety Policies.
- Trains yard personnel with respect to safety procedures, operating procedures, equipment functionality, skills matrices, and safe practices/behavior.
- Assigns work schedules and authorizes overtime and time-off as permitted by the needs of the department and in accordance with company policies.
- Ensures that Yard Department tools and equipment are in good working condition and that adequate stocks of consumables are maintained.
- Ensures completion of required documentation such as shift logs, check-off lists, equipment inspection forms, and safety meetings.
- Perform timely evaluations of new employees.
- Conducts/attends weekly safety meetings and participates in near-miss and other accident-related investigations.
- Must comply with company safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.
- Oversee plant housekeeping labor task activities.
- Oversee general services including, but not limited to, cooling towers, compressed airs, landfills and dumpsters.
- Oversee mobile equipment operations and training, including, but not limited to, coordinating mobile equipment and yard personnel activities assigned during each shift. This includes, but not limited to, vac trucks, sweepers, and housekeeping contractors.
- Oversee and maintain green areas, parking areas, buildings, and facilities.
- Coordinates with Department Managers and Superintendents, as needed. Provides relief coverage for Superintendents or Production Coordinator, as needed.
- Responds to calls initiated by Control Room Operators and/or field personnel to ensure appropriate and timely response.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years experience in operations or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Willing to work extended hours as needed or occasional evenings, weekends, nights, or holidays as needed.
- 3-5 years' experience in the cement making process or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education or experience preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the organization
- Ability to work scheduled hours.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of all field equipment, including, but not limited to, design, maintenance, process, and safety requirements.
- Has experience supervising others in an industrial environment.
- Ability to collaborate with other departments.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to use a computer, MS Office Software, SAP, email and operating software.
Working Conditions
- Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling and climbing to a significant degree.
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
- Involves frequent walking or standing for extended periods of time.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen to communicate with other employees/visitors.
- Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise and other conditions associated with working outdoors.
- Must wear necessary PPE at all times.
- This position may require working nights, evenings, weekends, holidays and/or on a rotating schedule.
