The Facilities Management department of Facilities & Services is seeking applicants for a Lead Campus Service Worker.

About the Opportunity

As a Campus Service Worker Lead, you will provide a variety of support services in order to maintain the interior appearance of institutional buildings and the surrounding exterior appearance of the grounds. This work involves adhering to established standard procedures, techniques, and safety requirements with some judgment required to interpret instructions. Will assign and direct work assignments as operational needs dictate.

What you'll do:



  • Cleans and maintains the interior appearance of Lincoln Hall including the library, laundry room, kitchenette, media room, elevators, main floor foyer and desk area, hallways, stairwells, public areas, and etc., by sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, rugs, and upholstery; dusting and polishing furniture; washing and cleaning walls, ceilings, doors, windows, etc.; and performing other related internal cleaning activities. Will operate walk-behind and riding scrubbers, high-speed buffers, automated carpet cleaners, power lifts, and all other associated equipment needed to perform duties listed above. Cleans and disinfects public area bathrooms and student suite bathrooms including walls, floors, lavatories, commodes, sinks, fixtures mirrors, etc. Replenishes supplies including toilet tissue, towels, and soap.
  • Assists the management team in overseeing, guiding, and assisting campus service workers in completing their operational assignments. Will assist in training new employees. Function as a team leader in meeting the operational needs of the department to include the following: (1) inspection of facilities. (2) submitting work requests into the TMA work order system.. (3) overseeing adherence to departmental policies. (4) inventory of supplies. (5) receiving deliveries. (6) will act as liaison with faculty, staff, and other customers. (7) assists in record keeping. (8) checking building for security. (9) performing office duties. (10) monitors activities of outside vendors. (11) assists in managing key control. (12) assists in resolving unforeseen problems related to the department's mission.
  • Oversees CSW day shift employees in the academic buildings and in the residence halls on the Evansdale Campus. This includes Fieldcrest, Lincoln, Ag Annex, the Law School, the Engineering Building, the Library, the Mountaineer Station; and ( in the absence of a Lead at the ERC) Towers. Will personally check with each assigned CSW on a regular basis in these buildings. Will fill in for CSW's as needed, especially on scheduled weekends. On weekends and holidays will be required to unlock buildings in the academic areas and clean scheduled classrooms along with public areas as needed.
  • Cleans and maintains the exterior appearance of Lincoln Hall by emptying and relining garbage cans, picking up litter, all institutional grounds by raking, removing, and disposing of leaves and debris; cleaning gutters, culverts, and other drainage areas; sweeping, shoveling, and removing snow, ice, slush, and mud from entryways and sidewalks; spreading salt and cinders on public passageways; washing graffiti from walls and sidewalks; and performing other related external cleaning activities. May operate blowers, walk-behind sweepers, or any other equipment needed to perform duties listed above. Removes weeds from shrub and flowerbeds as required.
  • During conference season will analyze conference schedules, attendee levels, room set up requirements and available staff to manage room turnovers on weekends. This includes organizing a crew of CSW's to clean, strip, and remake rooms in any of our assigned buildings. It also includes monitoring rooms and public areas and reporting maintenance, vandalism, and security issues to appropriate personnel. Assists with these duties during weekdays.
  • Responds to emergencies in the academic buildings. Responds to requests or concerns from the RA's and RHC's at Lincoln Hall and Fieldcrest Hall. Responds to requests and concerns from the Building Supervisors and office personnel at the Law School and Mountaineer Station.
  • Relocates offices and classrooms within buildings and throughout campus by lifting, loading, and unloading furniture, file cabinets, boxes, etc. onto hand-trucks, dollies, and box vans for transportation. May require removing desk components, doors, and shelves to ease in relocations. Moves, sets-up, rearranges, and erects tables, chairs, platforms, bleachers, tents, displays, etc. for concerts, registration, commencement, and other special events. Disassembles and stores items at the end of events.
  • Collects and properly disposes of trash and litter throughout institutional buildings and grounds including cleaning of trash receptacles and assisting sanitation vehicle operators. Collects recyclable items and places in appropriate storage location.


This position will be required to work various shifts that will include evening shifts and weekend shifts. Scheduling may be subject to frequent change.

Work Hours: Tue-Sat 10p-6a

Pay Grade: PG10

Qualifications

Education



  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency required


Experience



  • A minimum of six (6) months experience in the following:

    • Experience in proper commercial restroom cleaning procedures, commercial floor maintenance procedures, and commercial carpet cleaning procedures. Experience operating commercial custodial equipment such as walk-behind and riding scrubbers, high-speed buffers, automated carpet cleaners, and power lifts. Experience in the mixing and proper application of commercial strength cleaning products.
    • Previous experience in training others in the operation of commercial cleaning custodial equipment and leadership/supervisory training preferred.


  • Ability to analyze conference data and staffing levels to set up cleaning schedules
  • Proficient on standard departmental software programs
  • Demonstrated ability to train others in the safe and proper ways to operate all commercial cleaning custodial equipment
  • Ability to ready and write in English and perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to interact with supervisors and colleagues while providing leadership and coordination of assignments
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to rapidly learn custodia, grounds keeping, and labor methods, procedures, and safety principles.
  • Ability to operate all related labor supporting equipment, basic grounds keeping equipment, and commercial custodial equipment.
  • Ability to work on ladders.
  • Ability to communicate on a 2-way radio.
  • Capability to perform duties of the position including long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing and lifting of heavy items weighing approximately 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals (i.e. cleaning solutions) and variations in indoor temperatures and outside weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain proper unit attendance and punctuality standards.
