Overview

This is an intern level position at the LG&E and KU Generation Services System Laboratory located in Ghent, KY. Student will gain experience and exposure to the lab including receiving, analysis, and reporting of power utility samples. Internship will provide opportunity to gain troubleshooting, problem solving, and analytical skills. Typically works under close supervision of Scientist(s) and/or experienced Laboratory Technician(s).


Responsibilities

  • Assists in receiving, analyzing and reporting analytical results for samples obtained from multiple company systems including, but not limited to, boiler water systems, cooling water systems, and scrubber systems; fuel samples, oil samples, and sorbent trap samples.
  • Maintain documentation/computer entry of daily data.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents necessary for lab procedures.
  • Responsible for gaining understanding of compliance with various state and EPA water quality and discharge limitations.
  • Develop understanding of compliance with safety procedures regarding laboratory chemicals including hazardous chemicals.
  • Performs other duties as directed by management.

Qualifications

Completed sophomore year of college with declared major in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or related major

Recommended 3.00 GPA

Strong verbal and written communications skills

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
