Overview
At Rhode Island Energy the Natural Gas Transportation Specialist is a hybrid role responsible for the scheduling of natural gas supplies associated with Rhode Island Energy's natural gas portfolio. The Natural Gas Transportation Specialist will perform all gas scheduling activities, including but not limited to, nominations, confirmations, capacity release, and imbalance management within the required deadlines. In addition, in conjunction with management and the Rhode Island Energy gas trading team, the Natural Gas Transportation Specialist will identify pipeline and storage transactions to optimize the company's natural gas supply portfolio in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. #RIE #INDRIE
Responsibilities
- Plays a key role in a newly-formed organization to develop upstream interstate pipeline nomination and scheduling procedures and systems.
- Understands contractual rights and types of services as defined by the interstate pipeline tariffs and apply those concepts to the scheduling process.
- Nominates and confirms natural gas flows on interstate pipeline electronic bulletin boards ("EBBs") and in compliance with relevant Federal Energy Regulatory Commission regulations.
- Identifies and posts on interstate pipeline EBBs transportation and storage capacity that is available for release or subject to the company's mandatory capacity assignment program.
- Monitors daily information on pipeline EBBs including scheduled v. actual flows and changes or cuts to scheduled volumes.
- Actively reconciles, manages, and mitigates any volume imbalances resulting from differences between nominated and confirmed volumes.
- Research and become knowledgeable of contractual rights and types of services as defined by the interstate pipeline tariffs and be able to apply those concepts to best practices for Gas Scheduling.
- Ensures all scheduling activities and interstate pipeline tariff information are fully captured, documented, and summarized in the company's gas management system for accounting and billing purposes.
- Acts as a primary contact with company's accounting function in support of month close processes.
- In conjunction with Supervisor of Physical Trading and Scheduling, develop daily and monthly plans to optimize company's upstream interstate pipeline transportation and storage contracts.
- Provide training to other Gas Procurement team members with respect to gas scheduling and usage of internal and external EBBs.
- Maintains business relationships with various counterparties to identify opportunities for the company
Qualifications
This position will be filled at the appropriate level based on the successful candidate's education, background and experience. Natural Gas Transportation Specialist
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, plus a minimum 2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year for year basis is required.
Sr Natural Gas Transportation Specialist
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, or equivalent work experience is required.
- Minimum two years of gas scheduling experience for a natural gas market participant.
- Three to five years of overall energy market experience preferably in gas supply/procurement.
Additional qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with counterparts.
- Must possess excellent problem solving and analytical skills to work in this data intensive position.
- Must have the ability to work with detailed natural gas price and gas contract data; possess skills that enable candidate to work in a fast-paced environment yet ensure overall quality and accuracy of work product.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and particularly with the trading team to help optimize interstate pipeline flows on a daily basis.
- Must develop working knowledge of various computer models, database applications and complex Excel spreadsheet models.
- Must be willing to have a flexible schedule including weekend and evening hours.
- Must be willing to provide on-call coverage, as needed.
