The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for a Trades Assistant position. The Trades Assistant supports the work of the senior plumber and supervisor while learning on the job. Training is varied and may consist of rotations throughout the department to provide a broad range of skills. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, moving, installing, demolition, event setup, basic cleaning or clearing, and signage. They may have experience with several unlicensed trades. They may work independently or as a team, with assigned work but limited supervision and have a willingness to take direction. Job Duties: Assist senior plumber in performing routine system maintenance, preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, assessing problems, undertaking corrective actions, and site cleanup. Respond to emergency calls, including nights and weekends, as needed. Communicate with campus departments regarding the status of work orders, providing additional support and problem solving, as needed. Assist with snow removal. Have a basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools. Perform all work in accordance with safety rules, policies, and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Develop an increasing familiarity with the skills and best practices of the assigned trade. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. The Trades Assistant will be required to crawl, kneel, bend, twist, and climb ladders to perform their work. They will also work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: Plumbing and maintenance experience required.
