Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (https://chem.uncg.edu/) features an extremely supportive and collegial environment with 15 full-time faculty and a diverse student body. We offer a BS in Biochemistry, a BA, BS, and MS in Chemistry including biochemistry options, and a PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Our department is housed in a 170,000 square foot, $35 million state of the art science building. Excellent core instrumentation and state of the art facilities for NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography and mass spectrometry with full time support staff are available on site.
Position Summary
We are seeking applicants for a postdoctoral scholar position in Hematian research group. The project will focus on energy storage and harvesting and will involve conducting electrochemical and photophysical measurements including investigating new materials for novel rechargeable redox flow batteries (RFB's) Li-ion batteries (LIB's) or photovoltaics. Applicants with a strong background in electrochemistry energy storage research, materials chemistry, and standard characterization techniques and spectroscopies are encouraged to apply.

Most importantly we are looking for someone with enthusiasm for science and research, so applications from exceptional individuals who have a different scientific focus within fields related to different aspects of inorganic chemistry or biochemistry/chemical biology are more than welcome.

Candidates will have the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary environment and have close interactions with other team members with diverse backgrounds in a variety of areas including electrochemistry, materials chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, chemical biology, biophysics, catalysis, and photochemistry to broaden their skills.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. Other required qualifications include strong research background, excellent written communication skills as demonstrated in application materials and publications, the desire to mentor junior researchers and professionally interact with a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Electrochemistry, solid state and flow batteries or Electrolysers, materials chemistry, materials characterization, spectroscopy, synthetic chemistry or mechanistic studies is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a collaborative research effort and the desire to participate in external proposal writing and a strong publication record in peer reviewed journals.
  • Interests and track record in organizational, problem solving, facilitation and follow-through skills is a plus.
