Exciting Opportunity at SSU!

Physician, Hourly Intermittent

Are you a physician (MD or DO) seeking a better work/life balance who is passionate about providing top-quality primary care medical services? Do you want sufficient time to build relationships with patients, focus on preventative care, and offer health education? Would you enjoy working with a diverse student body on a beautiful, dynamic college campus, with opportunities to engage in outreach and collaborate with campus partners?

If the idea of working only as your schedule allows and having ample time for family, friends, hobbies, and personal interests appeals to you, this position is for you. No on-call responsibilities or long hours are required! This might be an ideal position for someone who wants to move away from full-time work but would still like to provide medical care on their own terms without the challenges of private practice or working in large, intensive systems.

Sonoma State University (SSU) is seeking a skilled physician to join our team at the Student Health Center (SHC) as we continue to develop and reinforce our culture of excellence. If you are looking for a fulfilling career with outstanding benefits, we encourage you to apply.

About Us

Sonoma State University values diversity, respect, excellence, and integrity. The SHC strives to provide high quality, affirming, and culturally-sensitive/humble care and health education to a diverse student population. The team includes administrators, medical assistants, registered nurses, a health educator, a laboratory scientist, a pharmacist, and medical providers. We are primarily funded by student fees, do not accept insurance, and are able to offer our students low or no-cost services. We largely treat acute illness and minor injury, perform age- and lifestyle-appropriate screening, and have the time and capacity to provide both individualized and population-based focus on health education and preventive care. We also provide reproductive health care including medication abortion. Join us and be a part of something extraordinary!

The Role

As a physician, you'll be an integral part of the SHC team reporting to the Sr. Director of Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and the SHC. You will be part of a small, talented, and collaborative medical team that prioritizes achievement, reliability, compassion, diversity, teamwork, and well-being. You will spend most of your time providing direct care to our students but may also participate in department planning, quality improvement, committee work, and outreach activities. You'll play a key role in ensuring the excellence and effectiveness of health services and will make a meaningful impact on the current and future health of SSU students.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need to be licensed as an MD or a DO in the State of California and be board certified in primary care. You'll need strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills in both written and verbal formats. You should be proficient with computers and software including electronic health records. Experience working in higher education, interest in working with students from historically marginalized communities, and ability to speak fluently in Spanish are all preferred.
