What you'll do

We are building a cutting-edge App ecosystem for Docusign that will empower developers to seamlessly integrate and extend Docusign's features and applications by implementing custom APIs. As a Lead Developer, you will be responsible for architecting and scaling this extensibility platform, ensuring that it is robust, secure, and easy to use for developers looking to plug into Docusign's growing ecosystem.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across the organization, driving platform architecture and feature development. Your work will impact multiple engineering and product teams as you lead the development of the platform's foundational features. Additionally, you will lead inner-team collaboration by overseeing code reviews, guiding architectural decisions, and managing incident response processes that require coordination both within the team and other teams within the organization.

This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Manager, Software Engineering.

Responsibility

  • Lead the development and scaling of Docusign's App ecosystem, allowing developers to integrate with core Docusign features through custom-built APIs
  • Architect and implement solutions leveraging Azure technologies, Kubernetes, and Terraform, ensuring the platform supports a wide range of integrations and applications
  • Design and optimize secure and scalable systems, including queueing architectures, NoSQL, and SQL storage systems, to handle the diverse needs of the ecosystem
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across teams to deliver a developer-friendly platform that simplifies the creation and integration of external systems into the Docusign environment
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and high performance within the engineering team
  • Advocate for best practices in software development, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure, ensuring the platform remains at the cutting edge of technology
  • Work alongside the Engineering Manager to prioritize and align the platform's technical direction with business objectives, driving strategic initiatives to support the evolving App ecosystem
  • Identify and overcome technical challenges, ensuring the platform is highly scalable, reliable, and capable of supporting the growth of Apps
  • Driving improvements to internal processes, such as optimizing workflows, refining coding standards, and automating manual processes

Job Designation

Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation)

What you bring

Basic

  • 12+ years of software development experience, with a focus on cloud platforms and large-scale systems
  • Proven experience in leading engineering teams and driving the development of scalable, secure platforms
  • Experience in cloud-native technologies, particularly with Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform, and modern software development practices
  • Experience with building platforms that support developer ecosystems, enabling seamless integration for both 1P and 3P developers through extensibility frameworks
  • Experience working closely with technical and non-technical partners
  • Hands-on experience with Azure services, queueing systems, NoSQL (e.g., CosmosDB, MongoDB), and SQL databases (e.g., Azure SQL), ensuring the platform supports diverse data needs

Preferred

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a track record of identifying challenges and delivering solutions that support long-term scalability and stability
  • A passion for developing innovative solutions, with a focus on creating a scalable, secure, and user-friendly developer experience
  • Expertise in C#, .NET, or similar development languages, with experience in Azure DevOps or similar CI/CD pipelines
  • Proven experience in architecting extensibility frameworks and developer ecosystems
  • A track record of mentoring and developing engineers, with a focus on team growth and continuous improvement

Wage Transparency

Pay for this position is based on a number of factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:

Washington and New York (including NYC metro area): $164,800.00 - $242,225.00 base salary

This role is also eligible for bonus, equity and benefits.
