Position Description

The Department of Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering (IMSE) in the Whitacre College of Engineering (WCOE) at Texas Tech University invites applications for multiple full-time, 9-month tenured/tenure-track positions at all ranks to begin in Fall 2025. Exceptional senior candidates may also be considered for the E. L. Derr Endowed Professorship.

The IMSE department is particularly seeking applicants working in the following areas: a) Advanced Manufacturing, with an emphasis on semiconductor manufacturing, energy device manufacturing, electrical device manufacturing, surface engineering, micro- and nano-fabrication, and development of innovative processing and materials; b) Systems Engineering and Management, with an emphasis on systems theory, system dynamics, complex system modeling and analysis, and system of systems; c) Operations Research, with an emphasis on non-linear optimization, stochastic optimization, healthcare systems, supply chain, and societal goods; or d) Human Factors and Ergonomics, with an emphasis on Human Factors in healthcare, human-AI-robot interaction, physical ergonomics, and biomechanics. About the College

The Whitacre College of Engineering (WCOE, https://www.depts.ttu.edu/coe/) serves approximately 4800 undergraduate and 1300 graduate students, supported by 220 faculty and instructors. The college had 852 BS, 557 MS and 68 PhD graduates in the 2023-24 fiscal year. All incoming first year students are enrolled into a common foundational curriculum for all undergraduate programs. Foundational students declare a program of choice and can move into upper division after completing the foundational classes with a TTU GPA of minimum of 2.5 TTU GPA or higher. The WCOE consists of the Departments of Chemical Engineering; Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering; Computer Science; Electrical & Computer Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; and Petroleum Engineering. All BS programs and the Environmental Engineering Master's program are ABET accredited. All departments have Master's and PhD programs. Annual research expenditures at the college are around $18M.

About the Department/School/Area

The IMSE department has a dynamic faculty who are actively funded by NSF, DoD and other federal agencies. Faculty members have won prestigious prizes, including most recently the INFORMS Optimization Society Young Researchers Prize and INFORMS Computing Society Harvey J. Greenberg Research Award. There is a vibrant and energetic research atmosphere both within the IMSE department and across departments in the WCOE, University, and the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. The IMSE department actively supports the WCOE research thrust areas of Energy, Water, Engineers in Medicine, Infrastructure, Nanotechnology and Big Data/Data Visualization and the CASFER NSF Engineering Research Center. The IMSE department has numerous laboratory facilities (manufacturing, bioprinting and biofabrication, tissue assembly and nanofabrication, complex systems modeling, control, and optimization, and ergonomics), and is home to a multidisciplinary safety center (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/cehrop/). Faculty Qualifications


  • PhD in industrial engineering (IE), manufacturing/mechanical engineering, systems engineering or closely related fields.
  • The candidate must have at least one peer-reviewed journal publication based on one's doctoral research.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Research scholarship: Candidates have a strong record of scholarship achievements.
  • Funding potential: Candidates have a proven capacity or clear plan to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University.
  • Teaching experience and capability: Candidates have a strong record of teaching or clear vision for teaching excellence.
  • Service (internal or external, student advising): Service to the department, college, and university is expected. Service duties include program-building, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities. Candidates demonstrate clear commitment to service activities and a strong record or clear idea for service.
  • A Candidate's research falls within one or more of the emphasized areas described in the position description.
