The TECO Energy Internship & Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while meeting the business needs of the company. The program is an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. The co-op program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study.

Position Summary/Details:

The Co-Op focuses on modern grid (generation, substation, transmission, and distribution) operational and asset management applications. Specific responsibilities include the development of applications, implementing software packages, integrate applications, data management (e.g., historians and data integration). Collaborates on all phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC) with a focus on the application design, development, and implementation phases.

Accountabilities:



  • Develops software of limited complexity based on specifications provided.
  • Implements software packages for which limited configuration and integration is required with minimal vendor contact.
  • Integrates applications where the complexity of interfaces is limited and based on specifications provided.



Physical Location of Co-op: 1898 Nuccio Parkway Tampa, FL 33605

Working Conditions: Mostly in a normal office environment

Preferred Availability: Part - Time (20-30 hours)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.

Co-Op Requirements:



  • To qualifyas a co-op student, enrollment in the university's co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.



Degree: Engineering

Related Discipline: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering

Year in School: Junior or Senior

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Working knowledge of business software applications and hardware technologies. Stays current with IT industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Good verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understands project plans and is able to clearly articulate their role, project goals, and timelines.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Comprehends technical design specifications and possesses knowledge of development tools and technologies in support of the Information Technology Architecture.
