Lecturer-Intensive English Program (.50 FTE)

The Department of Applied Linguistics & ESL at Georgia State University is a vibrant academic unit that focuses on adult and post-secondary language learning, teaching, and research. Our faculty specialize in areas such as second language acquisition, sociolinguistics, teacher education, writing, language assessment, corpus linguistics, and educational technology. We offer a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, as well as certificates in Teaching English as a Foreign Language ( TEFL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages ( TESOL).

The Intensive English Program (IEP), established in 1998, is a cornerstone of the department. With a dedicated team of four faculty members, the IEP offers a rigorous 5-level program designed to develop the language and cultural skills necessary for students to succeed in academic settings. The IEP has taught thousands of international students who have gone on to pursue successful academic careers.

In addition to its core academic mission, the IEP has established a strong reputation for working with international professionals through partnerships with government agencies and organizations, including developing EFL teacher exchange programs. Through these initiatives, the program enhances the multicultural and global learning environment, while fostering collaboration with partners both within Georgia State University and across the world.

The Department of Applied Linguistics/ ESL at Georgia State University invites applications for this half-time non-tenure-track position (Lecturer) in the Intensive English Program ( IEP) to begin January 1, 2025.

The standard workload for a half-time lecturer in the IEP is 20 hours per week, with 80% teaching and 20% service. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include two courses (six credit hours) per semester. Service obligations include assisting with orientation, placement testing, curriculum development, supporting social/recreational activities for students, and working with IEP faculty/staff on special projects and grants.

This is a half-time in-person position in downtown Atlanta, Georgia.
