Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The mission of the college is to serve as a national model for transforming the health of rural underserved regions through excellence and innovation in nursing education, leadership, research, scholarship, and practice.
Job Duties
Collaborates with faculty members to determine department priorities.
Provides leadership for implementation of the College of Nursing strategic plan and mission at the department level.
Collaborates with the Dean, Associate Deans, Directors, and faculty regarding program planning, monitoring curriculum, and evaluation of student outcomes in departmental courses.
Provides leadership and serves as a resource for the department faculty.
Encourages the career development of faculty.
Facilitates faculty research and scholarly activities in the department.
Coordinates an orientation of new faculty.
Conducts annual faculty and staff evaluations.
Recommends faculty salary increments based on merit, inequity, promotion, and tenure.
Fosters collegial faculty relations and mediates conflicts among faculty, staff, and students.
Collaborates with Student Services, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and Directors as appropriate in preparation of class schedules and clinical site placements.
Makes faculty teaching assignments.
Advises the appropriate Associate Dean about departmental needs and priorities.
Reviews expenditure of travel and educational funds allocated to the department.
Manages the departmental office effectively.
Teaches selected courses in area of expertise.
Participates in scholarly activities and professional services as required by members of the University faculty community.
Serves as liaison with the community through participating in relevant community groups and responds to community needs relevant to nursing education.
Completes other assignments at the request of the Dean and Associate Dean.

Minimum Education/Experience
Clinical Assistant Professor/Assistant Professor/Clinical Associate Professor/Associate Professor/Clinical Professor or Professor with a Doctorate in Nursing or related field; five years or more teaching experience in baccalaureate or higher degree program in nursing; demonstrated competence in classroom and clinical instruction; and demonstrated ability to facilitate the research and scholarly activities of others. Knowledgeable about nursing, nursing education and able to provide leadership for faculty in their development, guide faculty in course development and evaluation of students. Nursing faculty members shall hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina, a minimum of 2 calendar years experience, full-time employment, or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
A valid non-restricted North Carolina registered nurse license is required upon employment.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Administrative experience in the College of Nursing is preferred.
