Overview

SUMMER 2025

Shure offers a challenging, fun and rewarding summer internship program. The twelve-week program is offered to undergraduate and graduate students. We offer internships with a variety of work arrangements from onsite interns to fully remote in US. Each intern will receive a competitive salary. Additionally, Interns who are asked to relocate to Illinois for onsite internships will receive a housing stipend to cover living expenses. Applications will be collected, reviewed, and selected candidates will be contacted in late fall/early winter.

Join Shure's DSP Software team to develop the next-generation of intelligent audio products tailored for the live performer, the content creator, and the A/V conference participant! Activities will include modeling, developing, evaluating, and optimizing digital audio processing and machine learning algorithms for various audio products including an ecosystem of USB, wireless, and array microphones as well as installed desktop applications and wireless in-ear monitoring systems.

This Internship is Onsite, but may be flexible to Hybrid schedule.



Responsibilities

    Deliver digital signal processing and Machine Learning features into a variety of intelligent products to provide best-in-class audio experience to end user
  • Simulate algorithms using Matlab and other prototyping tools; perform objective audio testing; conduct subjective listening validation tests; collect and evaluate algorithm performance data
  • Translate real time audio signal processing and machine learning algorithms from simulation model (e.g. Matlab) to floating- point DSPs, ARMs, or PC platforms in C/C++
  • Optimize, test, and debug algorithm operation on real-time target platform to meet product constraints (MIPS, memory) and requirements (latency, fidelity)
  • Document algorithm design and performance
  • Collaborate with members of larger cross-functional development team including acoustics, analog/digital/RF hardware, mechanical, systems, and product management
  • Work with technical mentor to estimate, organize, and plan work tasks
  • Present personal contributions to product stakeholders and executive management


Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Completed at least two years of coursework in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, data science, AI/ML or audio related major with an emphasis in Digital Signal Processing
  • Experience with Matlab or Python/Numpy/Scipy required
  • Some experience with PyTorch, Tensorflow or other AI/ML tools is preferred
  • Experience with C, C++ or Assembly language programming
  • Experience designing any audio DSP software or hardware, preferably embedded implementations but can also include Matlab/Python simulations
  • Experience in software development on an ARM, DSP, FPGA, and/or PC processing platform
  • Experience with software development tools such as Integrated Development Environments, compilers/linkers, and debugging tools (emulator, profiler, etc.)

Experience with any of the following considered a plus:

  • Understanding of embedded platform development
  • Project work with AI/ML algorithms
  • Studio recording or live sound reinforcement
  • Audio recording and editing via DAW (e.g. Reaper, Audacity) including VST plugin usage and/or creation
  • Live streaming or podcast creation
  • A/V conferencing products and features
  • Algorithm research via survey of technical literature
  • Microphone arrays
  • Psychoacoustics
  • HRTF's and other binaural audio recording, rendering concepts
  • 3-D Audio, Immersive Audio, Augmented Reality
  • Test and measurement equipment including audio analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.

Modeled by extensive market analysis and economic best practices, Shure offers competitive intern compensation that is reviewed and adjusted annually by our Total Rewards Team to attract, hire, and retain the industry's top intern talent. Each internship has an hourly rate which varies from $21-$40 per hour based on job function (Engineering, IT, Business, etc) and year completed in school (Junior, Masters 2nd year, PHD, etc).
