Summary:Operate conventional machine shop equipment while building, repairing and preparing injection mold tooling.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position reports directly to and will receive direction from the Machine Shop Supervisor.

Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Operates and maintains all conventional machine shop equipment (lathe, milling machine, drill press, etc.)
  • Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate work
  • Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping
  • Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task
  • Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment
  • Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues
  • Completing checklists for apprentices and Mold Polishers
  • Sharpening cutters, drills, sprue cutters
  • Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs
  • Maintains a safe and clean workstation
  • Completing work assigned in accordance with verbal instructions and asking questions for clarity when needed
  • Completing work within required time
  • Tracer lathe threading
  • Trouble shoot injection mold problems and tooling issues (example: part flashing)
  • Responding to and providing solutions for tooling issues causing production downtime
  • Calculating tooling stack up from dimensions referenced on engineering drawings
  • Making new cutters from raw material
  • Maintain accurate record of work activity and time
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by supervision or management.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate of completion from an accredited machine shop or tool and die vocational school preferred.
  • Excellent coordination and mechanical skills
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in math
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of metal properties and other material

Educationand/orExperience:High School Diploma or equivalent and Trade School certification preferred. Minimum of 2 years machine shop experience in a machine shop.

Language Skills:Ability to read and comprehend sufficient English to follow work instructions and engineering drawings. Must be able to communicate well verbally with others.

Mathematical Skills:Basic mathematical skills and a solid understanding of engineering drawings/tolerances is required.

Reasoning Ability:Ability to resolve complex problems.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Must be able to meet requirements for a forklift license.
