Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Women's and Gender Studies ( WGST) is an academic unit in the College of Arts & Sciences. Our mission is primarily to expand the process of knowledge production by considering what it means to take gender, race, class, and sexuality seriously in our explanations of the world and provide a methodology that is interdisciplinary, multicultural, and feminist. We primarily serve the undergraduate populations by offering a major and a minor in Women's and Gender Studies. We also offer a graduate minor to PhD students working on issues of women and gender in other departments. (https://womensstudies.unc.edu/). The Department of Women's and Gender Studies is also home to the Program in Sexuality Studies.
Position Summary
The Department of Women's and Gender Studies ( WGST) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ( UNC) is recruiting a tenured Distinguished Professor whose research and teaching focus is on feminist studies.The ideal candidate will complement existing strengths in our Department. We are particularly interested in social scientists who specialize in LGBTQ+ Studies, Global Asian and/or Asian American Feminisms, and/or Indigenous Studies and who have experience in academic administration. The selected candidate will be expected to teach two courses per semester at all levels of our curriculum, publish actively, and offer service to the Department and University. We welcome applications from candidates whose work aligns with our departmental mission as outlined on our website (https://womensstudies.unc.edu/).
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in Social Sciences (sociology, anthropology, etc.) with a focus on LGBTQ+ Studies, Global Asian and/or Asian American Feminisms, and/or Indigenous Studies.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who are full professors.
