Cyberattacks are growing in number and severity, impacting industries and services crucial to maintaining our day-to-day life and national security. Energy, health, commerce, and defense are constantly under attack, and successful breaches have far-reaching consequences. Our group works to defend our nation from cyberattacks by channeling our interests to develop state-of-the-art technologies.

We are seeking an intern who is passionate about software development, systems engineering, or cybersecurity to join our Cyber Concepts and Exploration group to contribute to our mission of creating solutions to the most pressing cybersecurity problems.

If you are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity or other similar disciplines and want to work in an exciting and collaborative environment to solve challenging technical national security problems, we'd love to have you join our group.

As a member of our group you will...

  • Work on projects focusing on formal methods, malware analysis, quantum computing, cryptography, systems engineering, and trusted computation.

  • Network and learn from experienced individuals with diverse backgrounds across industry and academia.

  • Participate in fun activities like our yearly summer cookout, weekly board game nights, and lab-wide intern activities!


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar degrees.

  • Have programming experience in Java, C/C++, Python, or other common programming languages.

  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

  • Are interested in performing research and exploring new cyber concepts.

  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret Clearance. If selected, you will be subjected to a government security investigation, and you should meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the Secret level. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Know general cyber security knowledge.

  • Have strong software engineering skills and familiarity with version control software.

  • Have a strong background in discrete math, algorithms, and logical foundations.

  • Have experience with malware detection, cloud computing, cryptography, or computer networks.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
