What You'll Do:

This position is responsible for directing and managing all functions of programming and data management. The Director of Application Development is also responsible for overseeing and coordinating the people, resources, and processes required to deliver new software or upgrade existing products. This includes collaborating with cross-functional teams within the credit union to review, analyze, and customize existing business systems including coding, testing, debugging, and documenting programs to ensure accurate and efficient product information is accessible to relevant stakeholders. Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with all stakeholders to identify and establish functional requirements and review solutions to ensure organizational needs are met
  • Oversees the work of a team responsible for designing, building, testing, deploying, maintaining and supporting applications or system software
  • Develop short-and long-term product roadmaps to ensure continuous improvement of software and product development strategy
  • Assumes responsibility for effectively customizing third party software to meet the Credit Union's information needs
  • Oversee development and maintaining applications that integrate with the data processing system (Episys) and other third party systems.
  • Analyze, review, enhance, and tailor existing programs to increase operating efficiency as needed
  • Prepares program test data, analyzes test results, and specifies data control procedures for modified and enhanced programs
  • Ensures that programming operations are performed in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures while adhering to all industry compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Manage improving operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending applicable changes in policies and procedures
  • Focus on establishing and enforcing policies for data management and usage
  • Ensures all data policies are implemented to protect sensitive information and prevent unauthorized access or theft
  • Creating, documenting, distributing, and enforcing data management policies, procedures, and protocol for handling and archiving data
  • Oversees the development and use of data systems implementing efficient ways to organize store and analyze data with attention to security
  • Collaborate with legal, IT, and business teams to create a framework that aligns data management with business strategy
  • Manage the seamless integration, operational management, governance, risk management and enhancement of AI systems to ensure AI initiatives are efficient, scalable, and align with business strategies
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining good communication and coordination with other departments
  • Ensure development of successful solutions by collaborating with departments to learn how they operate and use the data processing system
  • Ensures that interactions of programming with users are clear, courteous, and understandable
  • Keeps management informed of significant problems and of progress attained in reaching established objectives
  • Provides recommendations to establish new and more effective programs and future equipment needs
  • Recommends programming-related procedures and changes
  • Develop each employee to their highest potential by providing training/educational opportunities, coaching, and identifying areas for improvement
  • Prepares reports of programming activities, discussing changes and their strategic impact across the organization.
  • Coordinates, attends and actively participates in meetings and committees as required
  • Stays abreast of changes in programming and computer technology
  • Be familiar with and follow all policies, procedures and processes which have been established in order to meet compliance requirements of all applicable federal regulations. The regulations include but are not limited to the Privacy Act, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Reg. CC and Patriot Act.

Who you are:

  • Required: Bachelors Degree in IT, IT Management, Programming, software development or related field
  • Required: 7+ years application development experience
  • Preferred: 3+ years of financial institution experience
  • Preferred: Experience programming on a credit union data processing system, preferably Symitar.
  • Experience using some type of scripting language. Experience with XML, Java, C++, .NET, HTML, Python, PERL, SQL, XML, Machine Learning, NLP are all a plus
  • Excellent communications and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Must demonstrate the flexibility necessary for working in emergency-style environment, willing to triage problems, and sometimes working odd or extras hours as needed
  • Proven track record in completing assigned projects within deadlines
  • Able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking and multi-faceted environment and be willing to keep up with high end-user demands and making himself available and accessible
