Description

The Department of English and Creative Writing at Dartmouth College invites applications for a position in Black Studies (open field) at the rank of Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek a dynamic scholar of African American/Black diaspora literature and culture whose research will add to and align with curricular strengths in the department. We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching coincide with the following fields of study: Black Feminism, Queer/Trans Theory, Environmental Studies, and/or Transatlantic Studies.

The Department of English and Creative Writing is comprised of 27 tenure-line faculty and six teaching faculty. Dartmouth is on the quarter system and faculty teach four courses per year over four quarters. The curriculum ranges across all periods of Anglophone literature and has a strong creative writing program. We are also committed to developing new fields and to rethinking the relationship between critical and creative practice. Beyond the department, our faculty participate in a wide range of interdisciplinary initiatives, including collaborations with the Department of African and African American Studies, the Program in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, the Leslie Center for the Humanities, and the Institute for Black Intellectual and Cultural Life.

Qualifications

PhD in English, African American Studies, or a closely related field. Qualified candidates will have a strong record of publication and will be considered a leading scholar in their field of study. Along with a record of outstanding research and teaching, candidates are expected to contribute to the growth of Black Studies research at the college.
