About This Role:

Kansas State University Libraries seeks a creative and collaborative librarian to join our academic services department. The successful candidate will serve as the Libraries' liaison to business and social science departments, supporting teaching, learning and research endeavors in those programs. Experienced and new librarians are encouraged to apply.This is a 12-month, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. This position reports to the social sciences/education/business team lead.

We are looking for a librarian who is excited about the possibility of supporting faculty and students in emerging and growing areas of teaching and research, including evidence synthesis, artificial intelligence, and accessing and using data. The ideal candidate will be adaptable and willing to learn.

Responsibilities:



  • Actively engage with faculty, students and colleagues to establish partnerships and strong working relationships to support teaching, learning and research.
  • Serve as the Libraries' liaison to departments and programs as assigned, which may include management, marketing, accounting, finance, economics, political science, psychological sciences, etc.
  • Provide research consultations and information literacy instruction for assigned departments and programs.
  • Maintain awareness of a wide variety of research tools, methodologies and resources appropriate for scholarly research, including citation management, evidence synthesis, data analysis, research data management, open initiatives and generative AI.
  • Collaborate with content development librarians to select and deselect business and social sciences resources.
  • Contribute to committees, working groups, teams, projects or other initiatives that further the missions of the Libraries, the university, and the profession.


Worksite Options:

This position is required to be performed on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:



  • MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited or equivalent international accredited program.
  • Coursework or experience in information literacy instruction, lesson planning and creating learning outcomes and assessments.
  • Coursework or experience in providing research support to students, faculty and researchers.
  • Familiarity with and interest in applying new tools and skills to support both established and emerging research methods.
  • Ability to manage time and multiple projects in an evolving environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a positive, flexible, creative and innovative attitude.
  • Ability to clearly express complex ideas in multiple modalities, including verbal and written.
  • Ability to pursue activities and meet responsibilities necessary for achieving tenure at Kansas State University Libraries.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Educational background, professional or pre-professional experience in a business or social science discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with business and/or social sciences research resources and techniques.
  • Familiarity with major data resources and tools in business and/or the social sciences.
  • Demonstrated experience finding, accessing, creating, manipulating, managing and visualizing business and/or social sciences data.
  • Experience or interest in contributing to Carpentries workshops.
  • Grant-writing experience.
