About This Role:

The director of licensing for the Kansas State University Research Foundation (KSURF) is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the strategic direction and managing the institution's technology licensing activities. This position involves developing and executing comprehensive strategies to commercialize intellectual property (IP), fostering collaborative relationships with industry partners, and leading a high-performing team of licensing professionals. The director will play a pivotal role in maximizing the organization's impact by effectively managing and commercializing its intellectual assets, contributing to innovation, corporate engagement, and societal benefit.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Seven years of relevant experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., MS, MBA, JD) preferred.
  • Ten or more years of experience in technology transfer, licensing or commercialization, with a proven track record of successfully managing high value IP transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, team leadership, and contract negotiation.
  • Strong knowledge of intellectual property laws, licensing practices, and commercialization strategies.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with industry leaders, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct market research and competitive analysis.
