Job Description Summary

This position performs a variety of tasks and functions while making strategic decisions essential to carrying-out the daily operational and event-specific management operations for all Wake Forest University athletic programs. Critical component of workforce to manage hundreds of Wake Forest Athletics events & activities annually.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Leads facilities, operations and event management in the areas of facilities management, event operations, external rentals, and other related responsibilities.
  • Supervises facilities management of McCreary Football Field House, Spry Stadium, Kentner Stadium, and the Wake Forest Tennis Center; coordinates gameday operations and long-term facility maintenance.
  • Works independently as the primary game manager for select sports that include but are not limited to Volleyball, Women's Tennis, and Men's Tennis; manages all event operational logistics including but not limited to: serving as the visiting team liaison, coordinating travel logistics and covering practices, preparing and distributing operational guides, visiting team materials, and tournament manuals, organizing credential and signage production, and preparing hospitality spaces.
  • Ensures events and facility operations comply with relevant regulations, permits, and licenses. Implements safety protocols and emergency procedures, as needed. Identifies and mitigates risks associated with selected events and facility operations.
  • Provides regular updates and reports on event and facility operations to the Assistant Athletic Director of Event and Facility Operations.
  • Coordinates and communicates with necessary event support staff, ie: ball people, public address announcers, scoreboard operators, parking staff, security and police, student staff, medical services, etc.
  • In-game responsibilities include, but not limited to management of crowd control, facility and technology troubleshooting, upkeep of field/court, team and official liaison, support staff oversight, operation of scoreboards, clocks, sound equipment, metal detectors, and all other security implementation.
  • Supports the Assistant Athletic Director and Assistant Directors of Athletic Event and Facility Operations with football, men's and women's basketball, and select event operations activities. This includes pre-event coordination with internal and external partners, event operations, post-event breakdown, and logistics.
  • Serves as primary department contact to assigned vendors and external partners.
  • Coordinates the upkeep and maintenance of facilities, ensuring playing fields and courts are prepared for team practices or games, including, but not limited to: goals, nets, press box, restrooms, trash removal, electronics and speakers, and lights.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment inventory, oversees, and coordinates the maintenance and upkeep of department-owned and rented vehicles.
  • Attends all Event and Facility Operations staff and operational meetings.
  • Assists Event and Facility Operations staff and Senior Associate Athletic Director of Capital Projects and Operations with special projects, which may include research, meetings, written reports, and long-term planning projects.
  • Conducts post-event evaluations to assess the success of events, identify areas for improvement, and gather feedback from clients and attendees. Implements changes based on evaluation findings.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to perform medium work: exerting up-to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; subject to extreme heat and cold; subject to hazards and atmospheric conditions; subject to oils; exposed to infectious diseases.
  • General knowledge of all ACC and NCAA competition guidelines related to game management.
  • Ability to communicate with various constituents: general public, students, coaches, and administrators.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office & Google applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements of the University's automobile insurance policy.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • At least one year of related experience
  • Sports management/business degree or coursework.
  • Previous experience working within an intercollegiate athletic program.
