The Assistant Director, Direct Response, is a member of the Experience & Engagement team and reports to the Senior Executive Director, Acquisition. The Experience & Engagement team is responsible for broad-based donor acquisition; donor communications; stewardship and recognition; and a robust pipeline of events. The Assistant Director, Direct Response, collaborates with departmental leaders and implementing partners to advance Philanthropy initiatives and support high-impact programs and projects tied to fundraising and fundraising-adjacent efforts in direct response. The Assistant Director, Direct Response, is responsible for growing our donor pipeline by developing strategies and tactics for a sophisticated, omni-channel fundraising program. This leader will manage one direct report and oversee the day-to-day operations and growth of digital and print programs for broad-base audiences.

Some travel and weekend and evening work will be required.

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus (2 days per week) and remotely.



Responsibilities

    Lead strategy, execution, and analysis of Philanthropy's direct response fundraising program, with direction from Senior Executive Director, Acquisition.
  • Manage relationship and scope of work with direct response fundraising agency of record.
  • Partner with creative collaborators on the development and production of best-in-class direct response materials that persuasively and accurately articulate the mission and goals of Fred Hutch and translate complex research priorities into campaigns that inspire increased participation and donations.
  • Partner with leadership, collaborators in Philanthropy and other departments, and/or external partners to manage and grow a key program within Philanthropy.
  • Lead the operational execution of the program, including planning, tracking deliverables, ensuring projects are delivered on time and on budget, convening and aligning stakeholders, troubleshooting, and anticipating and mitigating obstacles.
  • Help evaluate and strengthen relevant Philanthropy operations and systems; establish and implement new or revised procedures and processes when needed.
  • Oversee implementation of new initiatives and maintain/expand current program; stay abreast of and incorporate industry and organizational best practices.
  • Build trusted relationships to work effectively across multiple teams.
  • Supervise employee workload and day-to-day responsibilities to achieve program goals.
  • Help document and maintain SOPs and records for historical analysis and information purposes.
  • Serve as a leader of others; this role may have program and/or fundraising responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Five years related experience managing programs and/or people.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of direct response marketing best practices in the areas of donor acquisition, pipeline development, channel integration, audience analysis, business processes, and project management.
  • Knowledge of digital landscape and tools as they relate to fundraising.
  • Proven track record of increasing revenue and growing constituencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to create innovative strategies for engaging new audiences.
  • Experience managing an agency partner and working with them to develop strategies, implement plans, and manage data and invoices.
  • Ability to establish, manage, and update priorities in a fast-paced, complex organizational environment.
  • Skilled in training and managing the work of others.
  • Experience in nonprofit, research, or health care environment with campaign planning or campaign implementation experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly developed organizational and information management skills.
  • Strong attention to a high level of detail and quality of work.
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively within a complex organization.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with a CRM, Raiser's Edge/RENXT, or related fundraising software.
  • Ability to handle and respect confidential and sensitive information.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $80,434 to $120,619, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
