An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have a Work-Study Award

Position Summary:
The Graphics Assistant works closely with Explora's Graphic
Designer and Director of Exhibits to aid in designing, producing, and mounting
graphic panels for exhibits and museum public spaces.

Essential Duties and
Responsibilities

Responding promptly to requests for new or replacement graphics by locating, printing, laminating, and mounting graphics or working with the Graphic Designer and Director of Exhibits to design and produce new graphics
Frequent use of computer-based graphic design and production programs, laminating machines, printers, scanners, paper cutters, and other graphic production equipment
Interest in developing more sophisticated graphic design and production skills

Characteristics
Requires effective eye-and-hand coordination and manual dexterity
Requires standing and walking approximately 25-50% of the time, with regular need to perform physical actions that could include sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling materials, pulling, pushing, and carrying
May occasionally require lifting of various materials and equipment to a maximum of 50 pounds

Work Conditions
Most essential duties are performed in a museum and office environment with exposure to a
variety of business equipment and other
pertinent materials normally found in this type of work setting.
Museum facilities may expose employee to high noise levels, crowds, temperature changes, liquid nitrogen, helium gas, electrical exposure, unpredictable ventilation, dust, and physical obstacles.
Work is normally performed in an area of limited privacy.

Minimum Qualications

Basic computer skills
Familiarity with Windows computers and design and illustration programs (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
Current attendance at a post-high school educational institution, preferably in an art- or design-related program
Eligibility for work-study positions
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, planning, verbal, and written communication skills
Portfolio or design examples helpful
