The Neurodiagnostic Technologist Level 1 performs standard and complex Neurodiagnostic procedures for patients with moderate supervision as directed according to established standards and practices. Provides technical assistance and training to students. Completes all necessary documentation for departmental records and patient procedures. Supports all functions, goals, and objectives of the department as well as development of any new programs that involve the Neurodiagnostic Lab and Epilepsy Unit. Responsibilities A day in the life of a Neurodiagnostic Technologist, Level 1 at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: Electrode Placement 1. Utilizes the International 10-20 Electrode Placement system to measure, mark and apply electrodes to the predetermined positions on the patient's scalp. Routine EEGs 3. Performs standard EEG recordings according to the departmental protocols including awake and asleep, bedside, isolation, geriatric, pediatric, neonatal, etc. Video EEGs 9. Performs standard Video EEG Long Term Monitoring recording according to the department protocols. Evoked Potentials 17. Performs standard Visual Evoked Potentials, Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials, and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials according to ACNS guidelines. Support During Seizures 19. Provides supportive patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizure and other patient emergency situations. Customer/Peer Relations 21. Works in a professional and collaborative manner with all team members and physicians in the delivery of patient care and monitoring. Departmental Protocols 23. Follows all department protocols Neurodiagnostic Equipment 25. Maintains all neurodiagnostic equipment in good working order. Continuing Education 27. Enhances professional growth and development through annual participation in educational programs, in-services, workshops, reading current publications on Neurophysiology testing/technology and Neurological disease, online CME through various professional organizations and manufacturers, and viewing recorded educational programs. Safety and Infection Control 28. Practices universal precautions and follows all safety and infection control policies. 33. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Physical Demands and Working Environment: 1. Exerts up to 50lbs of force occasionally and up to 25lbs to move objects. Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1. Associate's Degree in Electroneurodiagnostic Technology or equivalent Licenses and Certifications Required: 1. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
