As part of a diverse and hardworking team of Manufacturing Engineers, you will be the Lunar Manufacturing Engineer focal for tubing. You will assist with translating engineering design, drawings, and configurations into fully functional hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight by acting as the manufacturing engineering liaison between the tubing design engineering team and the tubing production team. You will also assist with implementing techniques to maximize the manufacturability and producibility of tubing assemblies. Additionally, you will be responsible for integration of the tubing at the module and flight vehicle levels of the space vehicle production build.

In this role, you will also identify, develop, and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence and schedules throughout the product lifecycle process. As an integral member of the team, you will also use data to drive process improvements, relay engineering requirements, and support manufacturing process development.

  • The permanent location for this position is in Merritt Island, Florida.

  • Potential travel up to 10% of the time for training and other support activities.

  • Occasional off-shift support as required: Shift rotation, off-shift (2nd or 3rd shift) support, extended hours, and weekend support.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Act as the manufacturing engineering liaison between the tubing design team and the tubing production team by implementing techniques to maximize manufacturability and producibility from concept to the production phase.

  • Author and maintain Build & flow documentation and Manufacturing Bills of Material.

  • Author and maintain work instructions to fabricate, assemble, test, integrate and refurbish tubes.

  • Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing.

  • Ensure build readiness prior to build start.

  • Provide Manufacturing Engineering support for gated reviews.

  • Provide shipside/lineside support.

  • Participate in anomaly investigations, root cause/corrective action analyses, and development/implantation of recovery plans.

  • Non-conformance report (NCR) generation, management, & closure.

  • Conduct DFMEA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design and build. Drive decisions from DFMA and PFMEA studies as well as historical actuals.

  • Perform root cause analysis when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions.

  • Apply lean manufacturing methodologies for process improvement and throughput efficiency effort.

  • Lead Manufacturing-related Projects.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical or similar) from an accredited college or university. ABET is preferred and others will be considered.

  • Experience with launch vehicle, spacecraft, satellite, or aircraft manufacturing environments.

  • Advanced professional expertise in understanding and application of manufacturing engineering fundamentals across the development and production lifecycles of systems including requirements, fabrication, assembly, verification, test, and refurbishment.

  • 8+ years of direct manufacturing engineering experience.

  • Previous experience in a product leadership role with significant technical responsibility and proven technical depth.

  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASMEY14.5.

  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, and Producibility effort.

  • Extreme customer-focus with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office suite of software (Outlook, Word, Excel, &

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading product through various product lifecycle stages including concept, development, and production.

  • Experience with NASA-STD-8739.6B (Implementation Requirements for NASA Workmanship Standards).

  • Experience with various welding processes: Orbital Tube Welding, TIG, Friction, etc.

  • Experience implementing Lean Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Experience with Primavera (P6), CREO, Windchill, Confluence, & Jira.
