Job Summary

The Alvira laboratory at the University of California San Francisco-Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Staff Research Associate with expertise in cellular or molecular biology or immunology. The Alvira laboratory performs translational research aimed to understand how developmental heterogeneity of lung cell subtypes influences lung growth, repair and remodeling with a long-term goal of leveraging this information to develop novel therapeutic strategies to treat lung diseases affecting infants and children. The successful candidate will lead an NIH-funded project with two main goals. The first goal is to understand whether exposure of the developing lung to hyperoxia induces durable alterations in immune cell function and impairs the lung innate and adaptive immune response. The second goal is centered upon delineating the role of distinct, perivascular macrophages in lung vascular development. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to other projects in the Alvira lab focused on specific lung endothelial cell subtypes that function as progenitor populations during development and repair. The successful candidate would have in depth expertise in cellular or molecular biology or immunology and experience working with mouse models of human disease. The ideal candidate would also be proficient in a variety of standard methodologies including flow cytometry, ithe isolation and culture of primary cells, immunocytochemistry, western immunoblot analysis, qPCR, and in situ hybridization. In collaboration with PI, the candidate will make innovative contributions pertaining to laboratory and/or experimental procedures. This candidate would consult with the PI on the nature and general plan of approach to basic research but then independently execute experiments using standard techniques and protocols on mouse models of disease and lung immune cells.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
