The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI) at the Yuste Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences, the Research Staff Assistant provides support for all the Lab's research activities such as animal colony, supply, equipment, and compliance. The incumbent will support the lab's research in Neurobiology.

The Yuste Lab's goal is to understand the function of the cortical microcircuit. The cortex constitutes the larger part of the brain in mammals. In humans is the primary site of mental functions like perception, memory, control of voluntary movements, imagination, language, and music.

This is a 6-month, full-time grant-funded position with the possibility of renewal contingent funding approval.

Responsibilities



  • Performs the generation of transgenic lines.
  • Assists with molecular biology experiments and preparation: CRISPR, Western Blot, and Culture Prep, and ensures accurate and reliable results.
  • In close collaboration with the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), ensures compliance with laboratory health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs routine maintenance and calibration of equipment to ensure true accuracy.
  • Collects and maintains research data and archives.
  • Monitors laboratory supplies and ensures prompt ordering.
  • Keeps the laboratory clean and organized.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent and 3 months of experience in a research environment.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in biology, neurobiology/science, biochemistry, or another similar field.
  • 6 months of experience in a research environment.
