Position Summary/Details:

The TECO Energy Internship & Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional development while meeting the business needs of the company. TECO is seeking a detail-oriented Government Affairs intern to support the Government Affairs team. The intern will assist in research, analysis, and coordination of legislative, regulatory, and policy initiatives. Candidates should understand the legislative process, have excellent research skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills. This position is ideal for students pursuing a degree in Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field.

Accountabilities: Support the Government Affairs team through a myriad of responsibilities including, but not limited to:



  • Assist in conducting research on issues, legislation or policy initiatives relevant to the company
  • Assist in the preparation of briefing materials, white papers and presentations for meetings and events
  • Attend governmental meetings, hearings, or other events and provide summaries or analysis of the proceedings
  • Assist with the tracking of legislation and public policy issues
  • Communicate and collaborate with team members and other stakeholders to achieve project goals
  • Participate in State & Regional Affairs meetings
  • Assist with the organization of advocacy events and meetings
  • Assist in drafting correspondence and other written materials
  • Provide administrative support to the Government Affairs team



Physical Location of Co-op: 106 East College Avenue, Suite 810 Tallahassee, FL 32301

Preferred Availability: Part - Time (20-30 hours)

Working Conditions: Mostly in a normal office environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an ABET accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.

Co-Op Requirements:



  • To qualifyas a co-op student, enrollment in the university's co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.

  • Business


Year in School: Junior or Senior

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Strong interest in government affairs and policy making process
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
