Job Summary

The Program Manager will manage all aspects of the UCSF Program for Breakthrough Biomedical Research (PBBR) and inter-related Basic Sciences Research Resources Oversight Committee (BSRROC) activity. The incumbent reports to the Program Director and is expected to independently formulate and execute a work plan to achieve the goals of the Program. The incumbent determines strategies and priorities for reaching goals and objectives and proposes changes to the goals. The incumbent manages all aspects of the program including financial, communications, implementation, oversight, administration, and strategy. The incumbent supervises one Financial Analyst 3 in this role. Detailed breakdown of tasks and effort, below.

The incumbent will also facilitate and manage ad hoc projects for the Vice Chancellor of Research's Office for Science Policy and Strategy, School of Medicine and the President of the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub In this capacity the incumbent will work with the School of Medicine and Chan Zuckerberg Biohub to delineate project scopes, provide project support, develop and deliver work products and execute tasks on work plans and initiatives.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $101,600 - $157,500 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Office of Research provides leadership, direction, and management of campus-wide research administration, infrastructure and services and oversees the operations of the following units: International Research; Office of Sponsored Research which includes Research Management Services, the Office of Clinical Trials Activation, Government and Business Contracts and the Industry Contracts Division; Research Development Office; Research Resource Program; Institutional Animal Care and Use Program; Human Research Protection Program (HRPP); the Laboratory Animal Resource Center (LARC); Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S), and the Office of Clinical Research and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI).

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and six years of experience in administrative analysis or operations research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • One year of Experience managing and administering program budgets
  • One year of Executive level administrative and office management experience
  • One year of Experience managing and administering grants and review committees
  • One year of Demonstrated executive level analytical support and experience
  • One year of advanced knowledge of MS, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint with proven ability to use tools as an efficient and effective means of preparing and presenting project outcomes is essential
  • One year experience demonstrating highly organized and advanced ability to prioritize projects to meet the demands and deadlines of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • One year experience demonstrating excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication, scheduling and coordinating meetings, sensitivity to difficult situations and confidential issues, communication with people at various levels within and outside the University

Preferred Qualifications


  • Background in science
  • Masters or PhD degree in related field
  • Experience in an academic environment and supporting faculty and administrators
  • Extensive knowledge of medical school business issues and a broader understanding of the external and internal issues that affect all levels of medical education, health care, and research
  • A high degree of well-developed ability to identify, gather, and convey information and different perspectives accurately, appropriately, and on a timely basis
  • Experience with UCSF tools, including MyReports, MyExpense, BearBuy, PeopleSoft, RedCap and Advance
