Job Description

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) James is the only cancer program in the United States featuring a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center aligned with a nationally ranked academic medical center and a freestanding cancer hospital on the campus of one of the nations largest public universities. The Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) is a comprehensive bench-to-bedside research initiative focused on harnessing the bodys immune system to fight cancer at all levels from prevention to treatment and survivorship. Dr. Glen N. Barber in the OSUCCC-PIIO is looking to hire enthusiastic, self-motivated Postdoctoral Scholars to contribute to cutting-edge research. Projects in the Barber Laboratory include studying the innate immune regulator STING and its role in influencing inflammatory diseases as well as cancer, particularly the evaluation of novel STING-dependent adjuvants for the immunotherapeutic treatment of cancer. Additionally, they are developing new vaccine concepts to prevent infectious diseases and cancer.

The Barber Laboratory also works in the field of viral oncolysis, specifically the development of a novel vaccine to prevent and possibly treat Human T cell leukemia virus type-1 (HTLV-1) associated diseases. This work involves performing experiments related to viral oncolytic therapies, manipulating and producing recombinant VSV vaccines, testing vaccination regimens, conducting T-cell proliferation assays, and performing antibody neutralization experiments using various mouse models.

Postdoctoral Scholar Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and perform independent research in innate immunity and inflammation.
  • Collaborate with other researchers and laboratory staff on ongoing projects.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data and prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of experiments and procedures.
  • Present research findings at internal meetings, seminars, and scientific conferences.
  • Stay current with relevant scientific literature and advancements in the field.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or Cancer Biology.
  • Strong experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA purification, cloning, qPCR, DNA and siRNA transfection protocols, ELISA, Western Blot, immuno-precipitation, post-translational regulation, cell signaling, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry.
  • Experience with animal experiments and a strong understanding of immunology.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to convey information effectively and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Requires successful completion of a background check; selected candidate may be requested to completed a pre-employment physical including a drug screen
